Expect plenty of entertaining tennis on day two at WTA Doha with a number of intriguing matches on the schedule at the Qatar Open. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering predictions for every match on the slate, including Iga Swiatek vs Maria Sakkari and Marketa Vondrousova vs Elina Svitolina. But who will advance?
Head-to-head: Kalinina 1-1 Sramkova
Anhelina Kalinina has had a solid start to the 2025 season, reaching the semifinals in Brisbane and the quarterfinals in Cluj-Napoca last week. Rebecca Sramkova on the other hand, has only won two of her seven matches this season, although she has faced tough competition, including Swiatek, Potapova, Bencic and Kessler. On paper, this is a very even match-up, with both players close in the rankings. While Kalinina is currently in better form, their last meeting in Beijing just a few months ago saw Sramkova dominate with a 6-4 6-0 victory over the Ukrainian, a result that is hard to ignore.
Head-to-head: first meeting
Another extremely hard match to predict. Peyton Stearns has had a relatively quiet start to the season, posting a 4-4 record, but she has pushed Emma Navarro, Kasatkina and Paula Badosa to very tight three-set battles. Meanwhile, Dayana Yastremska reached the final in Linz in last-time out, but suffered a heartbreaking loss to Ekaterina Alexandrova, which could be difficult to bounce back from just days later. However, with both players seemingly well-matched, the in-form Yastremska might still have a slight edge in this encounter.
Prediction: Yastremska in 3
Head-to-head: first meeting
After a disappointing 2024 season that saw Veronika Kudermetova fall from the top 20 to outside the top 70, the Russian has bounced back nicely so far in 2025, reaching the fourth round of the Australian Open and posting a solid 9-5 record so far. Additionally, she reached the semifinals in Doha just two editions ago, proving she enjoys playing in Qatar. Magda Linetta, in contrast, has not had the start to her 2025 campaign that she would have hoped for. In this somewhat surprising first meeting between long-time top 100 players, Kudermetova has to be considered the most likely winner.
Head-to-head: first meeting
This is a fantastic first-round matchup. Paula Badosa, back in the top 10 after reaching her first Grand Slam semifinal in Melbourne, suffered a first-round exit in Abu Dhabi but should still be feeling confident in her game heading into Doha. Meanwhile, Katerina Siniakova was forced to retire after just four games against Bronzetti in Cluj, raising concerns about her fitness. If she is not at full strength, Badosa could have a relatively comfortable opener.
Prediction: Badosa in 2
