The WTA Hobart has delivered some exciting tennis, and the third day Down Under even promises more. The last Aussie standing, Taylah Preston, will hope to continue her giant-killing run as she faces Slovakian Rebecca Sramkova. Will she have enough for another upset? We offer our predictions for the third day of action.
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Taylah Preston grabbed Hobart headlines with an upset victory over Jessica Bouzas Maneiro, rallying to a straight-sets victory to notch only her third career main-draw win.
Preston’s reward is a clash with Rebecca Sramkova, who edged Varvara Gracheva in a tight match. Sramkova sits well above Preston on the ladder, but Preston can play with freedom, especially with the crowd behind her. Another upset could be lurking.
Prediction: Preston in 3
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Peyton Stearns edged two-time major winner Barbora Krejcikova in a deciding-set thriller. She will meet Olga Danilovic next after the Serbian fought back to topple second seed McCartney Kessler. It’s their first meeting, with both players hoping for a strong run to steady their rankings.
Danilovic is only in her second match of the year, which could be a factor, while Stearns carries momentum from her upset of Krejcikova and may have the edge.
Prediction: Stearns in 3
Head–to–Head: Jovic 1 – 0 Zarazua
Iva Jovic delivered a statement win, blasting Janice Tjen with a bagel and breadfruit to reach the Hobart round of 16. The American teen will rightly start as the favorite against Renata Zarazua, who edged Hailey Baptiste in three sets.
While Zarazua is a tough challenger on hard courts, Jovic’s tennis is another level, and she will have too much power for the Mexican.
Prediction: Jovic in 2
