It’s a blockbuster in the 2025 WTA Mutua Madrid Open quarterfinals as Coco Gauff will take on Mirra Andreeva. The Russian has already won two titles at this level this year, can she add defeating Gauff for the first time to her growing list of achievements? We will also have predictions for the other WTA quarterfinals later when they’re set.

WTA Madrid Quarterfinal Prediction

Coco Gauff vs Mirra Andreeva

Head-to-head: Gauff 2-0

Coco Gauff started the season with nine wins in a row, not losing a match at the United Cup and sprinting towards the Australian Open quarterfinals. Her work with grip expert Matt Daly seemed to be giving her incredible profits with the forehand looking much more potent than before. But with the loss to Paula Badosa in Melbourne, things began going sideways and now the 21-year-old is not performing up to her standards. Perhaps the comeback she had this week against Dayana Yastremska can be a turning point.

Mirra Andreeva, on the other hand, has taken it up a level this year and joined the absolute top echelon of the sport in just a few months. She’s climbing the rankings and should be one of the contenders for basically any remaining title this season. That includes Madrid, which was her breakthrough event back in 2023. She loves the conditions and has been performing well this week as well. While she hasn’t faced any top-caliber opposition, she’s yet to drop a set.

Gauff defeated Andreeva twice in 2023. One of these matches came during the win streak that took her to the US Open title, while the other was at Roland Garros with the youngster gassing out after the opening set. The Russian will be much better prepared this time and doesn’t really have the holes in her game like Gauff with the second serve or forehand anymore. This win would be a way for the American to announce she’s back on track, but she’s not the favorite to get it.
Prediction: Andreeva in 3
