Top seed Linda Noskova will be in action on the second day of her home tournament at the WTA 250 in Prague, with the firm mission of going one step further than 2023, when she finished runner-up. Her match with Russian Anastasia Gasanova is one of many slated for the second day in Prague. As always, we offer our predictions on who will progress.
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Barbara Palicova participated in the WTA 125k event in Rome last week but was eliminated in the first round, weeks after losing the final qualifying round for Wimbledon. Incidentally, she now faces Priscilla Hon, who successfully qualified for Wimbledon for the first time in her career at the end of last month, but lost in the first round to Ekaterina Alexandrova in straight sets. The 27-year-old was hoping to carry some of that momentum into the Porto Open but was defeated in the first round by Mai Hontama.
While this match is up for the taking, Palicova–who hasn’t lost three consecutive matches this year–looks like a stronger candidate to win, especially on clay and in front of the home fans.
Prediction: Palicova in 3
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Top seed Linda Noskova reached the final here in 2023, but this time she will be aiming to take it a step further. In contrast to her solid grass court season, reaching the semifinals of the Bad Homburg Open and then making it to the fourth round at Wimbledon, her performances on hard courts hasn’t been the strongest this year, even though she did reach the last four in Abu Dhabi during the winter.
Her opponent, Anastasia Gasanova, made it to the main draw after going through the qualifying rounds and is a more prominent feature on the Challenger level, even winning the tournament in Monastir just last month. Noskova will be highly motivated to perform well at her home event this week, having shown her competitive spirit by reaching the final in 2023. With her recent strong performance in mind, we anticipate a comfortable win as she kickstarts her campaign here.
Prediction: Noskova in 2
Head–to–Head: First Meeting
Ruse, a powerful and gritty baseline player, has shown flashes of form this season, particularly on hard courts, however, inconsistency remains a concern, especially when her first serve misfires under pressure.
Siniakova, on the other hand, brings a well-rounded game and the experience of playing high-stakes matches, and the support of the home crowd in Prague could be a significant factor in lifting her performance. While she occasionally struggles with lapses in concentration, her recent matches suggest a player gaining rhythm and confidence.
Given the conditions, the crowd support, and her steadier form in recent weeks, Siniakova should edge what will be a gritty encounter even as Ruse has the weapons to make it close.
Prediction: Siniakova in 3
