Four African players will headline day two at WTA Rabat on what promises to be an entertaining day of tennis in Morocco. As ever, we here at LWOT will be offering our preview and prediction for every match on the slate, but who will advance?

WTA Rabat Day 2 Predictions

Mayar Sherif vs Arantxa Rus

Head-to-head: Rus 1-0 Sherif

This is an early, intriguing match between two clay specialists. Sherif was denied glory in her home continent when she lost last year’s final in Rabat. The Egyptian tends to draw huge support in this event and will arrive in Morocco for one more tilt at the title. Rus is overlooked on this surface, but she’s remained relevant with a long list of impressive wins against lower-ranked opponents. Sherif won the Parma 125K last Sunday, and maybe Rus can pounce at the chance of playing a possibly fatigued opponent.

Sada Nahimana vs Aya El Aouni

Head-to-head: Nahimana 1-0 El Aouni

For the second year in a row, an all-African clash is penciled on the day’s schedule in Rabat. Aya El Aouni has now been involved both times. Last year, she lost to Mayar Sherif in straight sets and will try her luck to get her first win in Rabat. Nahimana made her WTA main draw debut in this tournament two seasons ago as the first Burundian to appear at this level, losing to Jana Fett in the opening round. It’s clear that Nahimana has enjoyed exponential development since and will be the clear-cut favorite here.

Prediction: Nahimana in 2

Elizabeth Mandlik vs Maria Mateas

Head-to-head: first meeting

Maybe Rabat could be where Mandlik gets her season moving on the upward trajectory. She’s had two solid wins in qualifying, snapping a five-match losing streak in the process. Mandlik is a former Top 100 player, and the usual tennis logic would indicate she’ll win her opening match against Maria Mateas. But she has a losing 2-0 record against her compatriot, including their most recent meeting this season on hard courts. Mandlik needs better control of points since Mateas is a tireless worker from the baseline.

Katerina Siniakova vs Aliona Bolsova

Head-to-head: first meeting

Rabat is about form and not glitz. It’s the last window of opportunity to resurrect lost confidence. Siniakova is still searching for form before the French Open. Last week’s withdrawal from the Paris 125K event disrupted her momentum. It’s been a stop-start 2025 in singles for the Czech doubles No. 1, whose best result was the semifinal run in Cluj-Napoca three months ago. Bolsova has had a fairly consistent season on the lower tiers, but will need a massive dip from Siniakova to get a positive result. Siniakova should have this match on her racket, although her matches this season have rarely followed the script.

Prediction: Siniakova in 2
