WTA roundup: Madison Keys wins Brisbane triple tiebreak

No. 5 seed Madison Keys won the first triple-tiebreak match of her career Thursday, outlasting No. 12 Diana Shnaider of Russia 6-7 (5), 7-6 (5), 7-6 (4) in the third round of the Brisbane International in Australia.

Rallying from a set down and a 4-2 deficit in the second set, Keys finished the thriller in just under three hours. Keys compiled a 38-17 edge in winners, including nine aces, to set up a quarterfinal clash with No. 1 Aryna Sabalenka of Belarus.

Sabalenka defeated Romania's Sorana Cirstea 6-3, 6-3. No. 16 seed Marta Kostyuk of Ukraine upended No. 2 Amanda Anisimova 6-4, 6-3. No. 3 Elena Rybakina of Kazakhstan beat No. 15 Paula Badosa of Spain 6-3, 6-2. No. 4 Jessica Pegula rallied past Ukraine's Dayana Yastremska 5-6, 6-2, 6-3. No. 6 Mirra Andreeva of Russia overcame No. 9 Linda Noskova of the Czech Republic 5-7, 6-4, 7-5. No. 10 Liudmila Samsonova of Russia and No. 11 Karolina Muchova of the Czech Republic also advanced.

ASB Classic

Top-seeded Elina Svitolina of Ukraine defeated Britain's Katie Boulter 7-5, 6-4 and advanced to the quarterfinals in Auckland, New Zealand.

Svitolina converted six of 11 break points to earn a date with Britain's Sonay Kartal, who cruised to a 6-3, 6-1 win against Germany's Ella Seidel in 66 minutes.

No. 5 seed Magda Linette of Poland outlasted Italy's Elisabetta Cocciaretto 7-5, 2-6, 6-3 in two hours and 35 minutes. Up next for Linette is a No. 4 Alexandra Eala of the Philippines, who eliminated Croatia's Petra Marcinko 6-0, 6-2 in 62 minutes.
