The WTA Seoul quarterfinals were completed on Saturday because of heavy rain in Korea. That means the semifinals are scheduled for the same day. Iga Swiatek will face Maya Joint before Ekaterina Alexandrova plays Katerina Siniakova. Which two players do you expect to reach the final?
Head-to-head: Alexandrova 4-3 Siniakova
Siniakova has played three more matches than Alexandrova to reach this point. The Czech defeated Astra Sharma and Talia Gibson in qualifying before overcoming Park So-Hyun, Daria Kasatkina, and Suzan Lamens in the main draw. She did not drop a set in any of those contests. Alexandrova beat Lois Boisson in three sets and Ella Seidel more comfortably, 6-2 6-3.
The No. 2 seed has won all three previous hard-court meetings against Siniakova, although they have not played since 2020. Despite the lengthy gap since their last encounter, a hard court still suits Alexandrova more in this matchup. Siniakova would be better placed to disrupt her older opponent’s power by using variety on clay or grass. The multiple-time Grand Slam doubles champion has a chance after playing so well in her previous matches in Seoul, but Alexandrova starts as a slight favorite.
Prediction: Alexandrova in 3
Head-to-head: First meeting
Swiatek showed her status as the best player in the draw with dominant victories against Sorana Cirstea and Barbora Krejcikova. She only lost eight games across four sets in those matches. Joint also did not drop a set in triumphs over Linda Fruhvirtova, Sofia Kenin, and Clara Tauson. The Australian played exceptionally well against Tauson, winning 6-0 6-3
Joint, a 19-year-old who has already secured two titles in 2025, has enjoyed one of the best breakthroughs of 2025. However, I do not expect Swiatek to struggle in this matchup. Joint’s game is built on consistency in the rallies and outmaneuvering opponents. Swiatek is the best WTA player worldwide when she gets time to place her groundstrokes. The slow conditions in Seoul and Joint’s lack of overwhelming firepower should allow her to do that repeatedly.
Prediction: Swiatek in 2
