There are six WTA Stuttgart matches scheduled for Day 2. US Open semifinalist and No. 7 seed Emma Navarro faces an intriguing matchup against Beatriz Haddad Maia. We at LWOT predict all the action here and in a separate article, including Jasmine Paolini vs Eva Lys. Which players do you think will reach the next round?

WTA Stuttgart Day 2 Predictions

Jelena Ostapenko vs Dayana Yastremska

Head-to-head: Ostapenko 1-1 Yastremska

Both women try to implement almost identical playing styles of hitting flat and aggressively through opponents. Ostapenko has only managed one victory since reaching the Qatar Open final in February. But the Latvian is more adept on clay at her best, which is not Yastremska’s best surface. Ostapenko also tends to thrive the most against opponents who give her a consistent pace, which Yastremska will. Despite her recent woes, the 2017 French Open is backed to prevail.

Prediction: Ostapenko in 2

Ekaterina Alexandrova vs Liudmila Samsonova

Head-to-head: Alexandrova 2-1 Samsonova

This is another matchup between two powerful hitters with similar styles. Alexandrova relies slightly more on her formidable hitting since she is among the slowest movers on the WTA Tour. However, she showed her adeptness on clay by reaching the semifinal in Charleston slightly over a week ago. This is a 50/50 matchup that could easily go either way. Alexandrova’s matches in Charleston, albeit on green clay, might give her the edge against Samsonova, who will play her first match of 2025 on clay in Stuttgart.

Prediction: Alexandrova in 3

Emma Navarro vs Beatriz Haddad Maia

Head-to-head: Haddad Maia 2-1 Navarro

Beatriz Haddad Maia is experiencing the most challenging moment of her career. The Brazilian has not won a singles match since the second round of the Australian Open three months ago. Although facing someone as good as Navarro might seem like a bad draw, Haddad Maia has reason for optimism after beating Navarro twice on clay last year. She routinely jumped on top of Navarro’s heavy topspin forehand with her left-handed backhand in those matches. But those victories almost 12 months ago still do not inspire enough confidence to back Haddad Maia after such a wretched few months.

Prediction: Navarro in 2
