Eight-time Olympic gold medalist and world-record sprinter Usain Bolt celebrated his 34th birthday, which occurred on Aug. 21, with a party that reportedly included visitors not wearing masks despite concerns related to the coronavirus pandemic.
As noted by Reuters (h/t ESPN), Jamaica's health ministry confirmed late on Monday that the charismatic multi-sport athlete tested positive for COVID-19.
In a video Bolt shared to social media, he explained before his diagnosis that he was asymptomatic.
Bolt underwent the examination one day after his party, meaning that the positive test may not be directly linked to the celebration due to what is believed about the virus' incubation period.
Nevertheless, Bolt explained that he was self-isolating in his Jamaica home following the party as a precaution.
