Birmingham Stallions vs. Houston Roughnecks: Unlocking the UFL
Joseph Buvid-USA TODAY Sports

The Birmingham Stallions played the Houston Roughnecks, and we all suspected it would be one for the history books. But was it? We’ll recap the Southern Showdown of Week 8. At the tail end of the article, we will also discuss my perfect (depending on how you look at it) predictions for Week 9.

I don’t want to devastate fans, but you’ll only get two more weeks of regular season recaps from yours truly. Let’s get into it!

Birmingham Stallions Vs Houston Roughnecks

The Birmingham Stallions aren’t looking like such powerhouses on the gridiron this week, and the Houston Roughnecks looked really good. You decide!

1st Half

The Stallions QB, Adrian Martinez, was on fire once again to start out the first half. How on fire? Someone put him out because he got two TDs in the first quarter. Houston had a slow ember on their sideline as well, answering back with a TD. The first quarter ended 12–8. Hey Birmingham, you can get extra points; you should try that!

Martinez didn’t let up in the second quarter either. One TD and one field goal later, and the Stallions were stampeding to the locker room with confidence. An intercept from Houston’s safety, Donald Rutledge Jr., was well utilized, with Houston securing another TD. Few would have thought it would be a one-score game at halftime between these two teams. The score was 21-14.

2nd Half

This team made up for any overall league TD shortages. Neither team could get enough. The Birmingham Stallions got two TDs in the third quarter. The Houston Roughneck’s QB, Nolan Henderson, ran the TD in himself. The quarter ended with a score of 35-20.

UFL veteran Reid Sinnett was able to secure a TD in the fourth quarter. Houston’s defense was also able to keep the Birmingham Stallions from scoring. However, the extra points just weren’t enough. The Roughneck’s lost by just one score with a game total of 35-28. Strap your boots on, Birmingham. That was not an impressive win. Are we smelling weakness in the league’s only undefeated team?

My Perfect Week 9 Predictions

The full UFL Week 9 schedule is available here. The best content on the UFL market (The Forkball’s) can be viewed here. This is my second-to-last week of predictions, and I know we’re all going to miss this segment.

Saturday Games

Saturday’s early game is going to be between the St. Louis Battlehawks and the Arlington Renegades. I’m going to go out on a limb again for Arlington and say they’re going to win. The San Antonio Brahmas are comparable to St. Louis, and the Renegades almost took this win. It’s Arlington’s week during Week 9.

The Birmingham Stallions are going to lose to the San Antonio Brahmas. Why? Because they need to. Being undefeated this long is unethical for any one team’s ego.

Sunday Games

Sunday afternoon, the DC Defenders are going to beat the Memphis Showboats because (almost) everyone beats the Memphis Showboats.

Last but not least, Sunday’s other game, the Michigan Panthers and Houston Roughnecks’s game, will go in Houston’s favor. The Stallions are better than Michigan, and the Roughnecks almost took the win this week. Sorry, Nacua brothers!
