3 Sinister Reasons Dead Finger Dice is a Killer Hit

A forgotten Witcher minigame returns with a gruesome twist in Dead Finger Dice. In this roguelike, players wager their own fingers against demonic billionaires in a high-stakes game of poker.

Dice Poker Reimagined: A Grisly Roguelike Revival

The Witcher’s original Dice Poker minigame, long overshadowed by Gwent, gets a macabre makeover in Dead Finger Dice. Set aboard a cursed luxury yacht called The Avarice, players face off against demonic billionaires in a roguelike poker game where the stakes are disturbingly personal: each lost round costs you a finger.

Gameplay centers around rolling five dice across four turns to form high-scoring poker hands. But instead of coins, players bet their own digits- literally. A finger guillotine sits beside each player, ready to claim a digit with every defeat. Victory comes only by severing all of your opponent’s fingers before losing your own. If you’re reduced to stumps, it’s game over. The roguelike format means each run is different, with randomized opponents, dice upgrades, and escalating tension.

Crafting, Horror, and Retro Style

Between matches, players explore their prison cell, gather items, and craft new dice using fingers won from previous games. These custom dice unlock special abilities, adding strategic depth to each run. These dice are powered by the fingers you win from defeated demons. Each crafted die can unlock special abilities, adding layers of strategy to future rounds.

The game’s eerie 1-bit art style amplifies its horror vibe, placing it alongside other unsettling tabletop roguelikes, such as The Killing Stone. While no release date has been announced, Dead Finger Dice promises a chilling blend of body horror, strategy, and retro aesthetics. It’s a bold reimagining of a forgotten Witcher minigame- one that trades coins for carnage and nostalgia for nightmare fuel.

While I’m not a huge fan of horror games, for all you horror-game lovers, Dead Finger Dice is the perfect game to get ready for the Halloween season. The game sets the Saw Movies inspiration with the feeling of playing dice with the seven deadly sins. It amplifies the creepiness vibe and fear factor up to eleven, giving players the thrill of betting their literal hands to the forces of evil.

My only concern is the question of what happened when you win the game. Will the player still stay sane in the face of death? Or will they become the demon that most have warned us about?  If so, will the player learn about mortality and the risks that their opponent will wager to for riches, power, and the spoils that come with the price of the gamble? One thing’s for sure, Halloween lovers and horror enthusiasts will be scared out of their wits with the Dead Finger Dice.
