Street Fighter has seen a few collaboration items released in Fortnite, namely in the character skins of various iconic world warriors across the series. While it has been a while since the popular battle royale game brought in new fighters from the arcade smash hit, we can at least take a look back at what we have now.
With Street Fighter being an early gaming icon represented within Fortnite, they have existed within the game for quite some time–do they still hold up? Here is a rank of all the skins from best looking to worst appearing.
The loveable girl who saw her fresh debut in the Street Fighter Alpha series–she marks the only character among the existing skins in Fortnite to not be part of the original Street Fighter II. Despite how popular that game is, it does make me appreciate it more when characters beyond are represented.
Coming packed with an awesome alternate style, and even her iconic victory dance from the original game makes its appearance. Though she could have seen her Street Fighter V costume brought in, the gym outfit is a good representation of her character and a great change from the standard fighting game outfit she’s best known for. Overall, she has the best presentation, best character, and fan favorite across the cast.
Though he isn’t one of the most beloved, having him in the same wave as Sakura, both exist as the 3rd and last wave Street Fighter has received in Fortnite. It goes to show that the longer Epic Games cranks out these skins, the better they get at producing them. This wild beast looks as if he came straight out of the original game.
Even better, his alternate style, instead of being a reference to a past game, is actually based on another Capcom classic: Rival Schools! For those interested in trying that underrated classic out, its sequel is included in Capcom Fighting Collection 2.
Being the face of women in fighting games, Chun-Li is one who sees good care taken into looking her best. While she is part of the first wave of Street Fighter, and thus could do with a bit of a quality uplift in the future, she still surprisingly looks really good. She comes packed not with her typical kick-based moves, but instead a weapon more befitting of an officer like herself.
Even better, her alternate style represents the costume she took on in the Street Fighter Alpha titles, being a fun and exciting reference to gaze your eyes upon. Something that could have easily been her appearance in Street Fighter 6 had this collab taken place just a few years later, though thankfully, what we have was arguably the best you could ask for.
A man with a long history–even a weird debut into 3D, Ryu is a man who has been part of the fight for quite some time now. He was added into Fortnite as the other skin in Street Fighter’s Wave 1. While he is about what you would expect out of him, that is about all that can be said.
Coming with an alternative style that has him shirtless and a beard, it was just a few years shy of being the appearance he would have in Street Fighter 6. Alternatively, it does make me wish they had gone with something that referenced Evil Ryu–an evil version of the main hero that was first introduced in Street Fighter Alpha 3. Perhaps as a prelude to simply adding the very popular Akuma to the fight.
Unfortunately, fans of the similarly attractive Cammy White were not given the best attention as the lightning kicks master, despite being part of the second wave, it is mildly understandable why changes to her core design had to be made to better suit the general audience Fortnite would be played with.
Though not bad on its own, even coming with a very cool alternate style, it does make me wish the 6th game had existed to become a potential outfit for her to have. Still, I can imagine most players would not be too displeased to have this skin in their locker, and the deal breaker is not the end of the world!
America did not do this man fine, and it is truly a shame. Comparatively to his fighting brethren, Guile appears… not like his self from his games. While the outfit appears spot on, the face does feel as though an existing Fortnite skin got repurposed and given the Sonic Boom user’s clothes.
Even worse, while the alternate style is certainly a little fun, it is not as much of a reference as it could have been had it used the appearances Guile has taken on in 5 or 6. Still, as a bit of an internet meme himself, surely there are people who can let it slide, as the front of his face is not something you will see much of in standard gameplay.
Though there have not been any more Street Fighter classics brought over to Fortnite, perhaps the interest in more collaboration akin to would be fun–considering their collaboration with Overwatch 2 very recently. Newly added skins is nothing to complain about, maybe matching more of the quality of new collabs in Fortnite.
