Week 2, Day 1 of the LTA North Split 2 Playoffs. TL vs DIG. DIG is on Blue, TL is on Red.  TL’s roster is Impact (top), Yuuji (jungle), APA (mid), Yeon (bot), and CoreJJ (support).  DIG’s roster is Srtty (top), Sheiden (jungle), Keine (mid), Tomo (bot), and Isles (support).  TL won Game 1 and 3, DIG won Game 2. For more information on what Early, Mid, and Late Game means, see Terms at the bottom of the article.

Champion Selection: A Few New Faces

The pool of champions has dwindled in this 4th Fearless game.  This means we get a few new bans.  Yorick, Yone, Poppy, Ryze, Shen, and Ambessa are taking out of contention.

DIG 1st picks the Lucian to start things off.  TL grabs Sejuani and Aphelios.  DIG counters with Milio and Gnar.  TL takes Lulu are their pick before 2nd ban phase.

Trundle, Jax, Dr. Mundo, and Casseopia are banned away.

As they start up champion selection again, TL locks in Sylas.  DIG closes out their comp with Corki and Lillia.  TL has the last pick, and they choose Tristana.  DIG draft a more convention team with heavy poke, though little full engage.  TL’s team has heavy damage, as well as good engage and peel, though it can bit a bit execution dependent.  They are also the ones to bring out champs that haven’t really been played much (Lulu and Aphelios).

Team comps are: DIG – Gnar (top), Lillia (jungle), Corki (mid), Lucian (bot), Milio (support) vs TL – Sylas (top), Sejuani (jungle), Tristana (mid), Aphelios (bot), Lulu (support).

Early Game Highlights: Another Slow Start

Nothing really interesting happens during the start of the game.  Just farming and poking.

APA gets very aggressive against Keine in Mid Lane.  Rocket jumps forward but doesn’t have to the damage to kill him and has to Flash out to survive.  Bit of a misplay there.

TL takes the 1st Drake (Chemtech) uncontested.  In response, Sheiden Steals several of Yuuji’s camps.

Yuuji takes up the Voidgrubs uncontested.

Sheiden attempts to gank Yeon and CoreJJ in Top Lane with Tomo and Isles, but they don’t have to damage to get any kills.  The Bot Duo of TL walks away with only CoreJJ’s Heal burned.

Early Game ends with TL ever so slightly ahead in gold (300) and farm even.

Mid Game Highlights: The Trade of Objectives Favors TL

The long winter of inaction continues.

DIG takes the 2nd Drake (Ocean) uncontested.  On the other side of the map, the Bot Duos get into a fight and TL have to back off and burn both Flashes to survive.

TL takes the Outer Bot Turret of DIG for 1st Turret of the game.  DIG attempts to take Rift Herald in response but TL arrives and pushes them off of it before taking it themselves.

APA and Yuuji go Top, drop the Rift Herald, take the Outer Turret, kill Srtty, and deal a massive amount of damage to the Inner Turret, while DIG takes the 3rd Drake (Hextech).

TL chase Tomo and Isles down Mid Lane.  Impact comes in behind them and Knocks Isles Back with a stole Gnar Ultimate.  Isles dies to Yeon.  They then take the Outer Mid Turret.  All of DIG’s Outer Turrets are now gone.

Mid Game ends with TL ahead in gold by 3.8k and also ahead in farm.

Late Game Highlights: Pedal to the Metal

TL starts up Atakhan but has to back up when DIG arrives.

In Mid Lane, Tomo tries to get aggressive against Yeon but is stopped by a Glacial Prison.  Impact comes in but focused and chased through Bot River and into his own Blue Side Jungle.  He manages to survive because DIG doesn’t have the damage to kill him.

DIG starts up the 4th Drake but has to abandon it when TL deals too much poke damage to them.  TL takes over the objective and secures it.

Impact stays around Dragon Pit while the rest of his team starts up the Atakhan.  Though he dies to Keine, he creates enough of a distraction for his team to take the objective uncontested.

Impact, yet again, acts as a distraction, pulling Sheiden and Keine to Top Lane while his team starts up Baron.  He dies to Sheiden but his team secures the objective.  DIG does try to Steal, but they are unsuccessful.  TL are able to all get out of Baron Pit alive.

Impact goes in on to Keine in Top Lane, fighting him 1v2 as Srtty is also there.  Impact and Keine manage to kill each other.  The rest of TL are in Bot Lane.  They take the Inner and Base Turrets, as well as the Inhibitor.

As they move forward to deal damage to the lower Nexus Turret, Yuuji lands a Glacial Prison onto Isles, who gets immediately blown up by Yeon.  TL takes the Lower Nexus Turret and then moves on to the Upper.  While this is happening, Yeon duels and deletes Tomo, then evaporates Sheiden.  APA takes out Srtty and TL ends the game.

Post Game Analysis: DIG Out of LTA North Split 2 Playoffs

TL ends the game at 28:51 with a 6.9k gold lead.  The final score was 7-3.

Like in Game 2, TL again focused on taking Turret, giving them more gold and cutting off DIG’s attempts to control the map.  While DIG could have made better trades or contested for more objectives, their biggest mistake was falling for the same trick twice.

Impact acted as a distraction so that TL could take Atakhan.  Since DIG was all the way down in the Bot Side of the map, it makes some sense for them to have to deal with him instead of heading up Top.

The second time, however, they were already around Baron and decided to go after him instead of going to defend Baron.  That was a mistake. First, he was already going to take the Inner Turret, no matter what.  Second, if you wanted to make sure he didn’t take the Base Turret, maybe don’t send your Jungler when there is about to be a contest for a Jungle objective.

DIG got outplayed, pure and simple.  With this series loss, they are out of the Split.  TL will advance to the Lower Bracket Semifinals, where they will face off against the winner of the match between SR and 100T.
