Boss Tips for Silksong, Part 6 – Maggots, Muck, and Misery

We have hit the era of filth bosses. Groal the Great and Chef Lugoli both require you to deal with Muckmaggots in some form. To that end, both are made significantly easier when you have the Wreath of Purity Blue Tool equipped. Yes, it is a bit of a slog to get, but trust me, it’s worth it. Also, both bosses are fairly easy to deal with if you are using the Architect Crest. They both already have annoying aspects, so why not make things as easy as possible?

Groal: The Grueling Gauntlet

Let’s be clear here, Groal, the boss himself, is fairly easy. If you are good at pogo, you can avoid most of what he does by bouncing on his head. If you prefer a more passive route, Cogflies, Pimpillos, and Sting Shards will tear through him like tissue paper. Personally, I suggest using the Architect and just dodging around. It will make your life easier.

The main issue with Groal is the runback and the gauntlet before him. Regarding the runback, if you are using Architect, use your tools to help get you to the arena. There are 2 locations along the way to the boss (1 towards the beginning of the long room before the boss, and 1 towards the beginning of the boss room) that have Silk spools you can collect. They should have a Bind’s worth of Silk between them. Instead of trying to pogo with the Architect’s down-strike, use Clawline. Hitting the pus balloons with Clawline will still give you a “jump” effect.

As for the gauntlet, use your tools. A single Pimpillo can take out any of the enemies, assuming you have all the tool pouches. Just make sure you aim them correctly. As for the swinging spike ball, if you stand right next to either of the gates that close off the room (just stand, no Cling Grip or anything else), you’ll avoid taking damage from it. The telegraph for the spike ball is so long that you can very easily get to the closest gate to you from anywhere in the arena and still have time to spare. Save your Craft Bind until right before Groal spawns.

Two final things about Groal himself. First, when he does his suction attack, you can toss a Pimpillo or Voltvessel at him. He’ll swallow it, stop his suction, and take damage. Good way to get some guaranteed damage and end a sucky (pun intended) attack. Second, watch out for his Vengeful Spirit attacks in Phase 2. You can bait them pretty easily, but they are his most dangerous ability.

Disgraced Chef Lugoli: Big, Bloat, Blunder Boss

Tacks and Cogflies trivialize this fight. Chef Lugoli slides across the ground and drops down enough to make Tacks almost a must-have, and Cogflies will allow you to do damage while you dodge.

Regarding the boss herself, the best way to deal with Chef Lugoli is to move to the other side of the room, wait for her to telegraph her attack, and then dodge. If you do this, most of her Muckmaggot Globs will fly in the direction she was heading, which means you have much less to dodge.
