Boss Tips for Silksong, Part 7 – Player vs Environment

There are 43 unique bosses in Silksong, each with its own special trick and gimmicks. Father of the Flame and Voltvyrm both fall into the category of “environmental” bosses, though they do have different niches. FotF is a pogo race against time, while Voltvyrm is an exercise in dodging. Nonetheless, they stand out from the pack due to them being mostly passive entities.

Father of the Flame: Pogo Boss

This boss is rather hectic. You’ll be dodging fire projectiles with decent tracking for most of the fire, and you’ll have very little opportunity to Heal. To that end, I’d suggest forgoing Healing altogether and just focusing on dodging and damaging the cages. While most bosses in Silksong are a marathon, Father of the Flame is a sprint.

Since the rate at which the Wisps spawn increases based on how many cages you have destroyed, it would suggest getting each cage down to 1 hit left and then destroying them all in quick succession. It takes 12 hits to kill a cage with Sharpened Needle, 8 with Shining, and 6 with Hivesteel. So, hit a cage 11, 7, or 5 times (depending on your Needle) and then move to the next one.

I personally found it easier to start with the lower left cage and move counterclockwise (so you’d end up at the top left cage) and then destroy them in reverse, but ultimately, the order you go in is up to you. Just don’t lose count.

Once you destroy all the cages, Phase 2 is fairly easy to deal with. Voltvessels or Delver’s Drill trivialize this phase. Voltvessels is the simpler option, since you can just stay on the ground, though it’s harder to get (you have to go through Sands of Karak). Delver’s Drill is easier to find but requires you to do a little airborne maneuvering to get into position.

Also, as most people will probably be aware by now (since everyone talks about it), the cages can’t be siphoned by the Witch Crest, so, while you can still do damage to them with Bind, you won’t be able to Heal.

Voltvyrm: Silksong’s Version of Wack-a-Mole

The toughest part of this boss is getting through the area it’s in. I’d suggest using Architect Crest for this boss. You can use Plasmium Phial trick to gain functionality immortality, which will get you through the area without issue. And then you can just unleash whatever tools you want on the boss (Cogflies and Pimpillos, for me). All of the Voltvyrm’s attacks are well telegraphed, so they are easy to dodge. Plus, with Plasmium Phial regeneration, you can be a touch more aggressive if you want.
