Sentiment around Bungie and Destiny 2 is at an all-time low at the moment. The concurrent player count dropped below eight thousand just a couple of days ago. Very little is keeping players interested in the game until the release of Renegades in December. The Exotic Mission is set to release later today, but the excitement surrounding it is low. Yesterday, Bungie announced a change to the Power system that players have been requesting for some time.
Bungie reset everyone’s Power at the start of the Edge of Fate. All players were set to 10. Once players reached 200, any gear acquired at a higher Power afterward would be considered Seasonal Bonus Power. The max pre-Ash and Iron was 450, but after the updates, players can reach 550. However, the original plan was to reset all players to 200 at the release of Renegades, as well as eliminate all Unstable Cores that players use to infuse gear with higher Power.
In a post on X yesterday, Bungie announced that Seasonal Bonus Power and Unstable Cores will not be reset when Renegades releases in December. They also mentioned that the 300 power will become available next week. The TWID this week will provide further details on the changes.
Players have been asking for this change since the reset was announced. Many have felt that it is a waste of time to reach 550 power if they are getting reset in a couple of months. Fortunately, that is no longer a concern. It will mean players who have crossed the 450 threshold should have access to tier 5 gear from the expansion.
That brings one problem players have noted. There is little for players to play in Destiny 2 at the moment. Renegades must bring in more content to keep players interested. If it does not, we might find ourselves in a situation where fewer players are playing the game. The Power grind up from 200 would at least bring some players back to play more regularly. However, with no longer needing that grind, players might acquire their tier 5 god rolls and move on to another game. It is speculation at this point, and we will have to see what Renegades brings. The TWID this week may shed some light on what else we can expect.
