Well, Call of Duty: Black Ops 6 is in it again with their players, which adds to the ever-growing list of controversies that have happened since its release. The complaints are about ripping off other games, the use of generative AI, and the ever-present complaint about skill-based matchmaking. You would think after a bit of a lull that we wouldn’t have anything else to complain about—however, that is yet to be the case, and Season 4 has delivered it spectacularly.
Season 4 brings new ad spot in game for weapons

Season 4 just started up and has a lot of new goodies for players, but along with those goodies, we got something that we’re pretty sure we could live without. And that, dear players, is that Activision appears to have added new advertisements to the game that can be seen on the weapon loadout screens—blessings to IGN for their findings.
It looks as though these ads are attempting to sell the weapon bundles directly on the screens when you set up your weapons. So it’s not too much of a shock when people who have already forked over $70 for the game aren’t very happy that blatant ads are being thrown at them every chance they get.
The Black Ops 6 subreddit has made its opinions very well known. One user, ORourke27, actually put it quite perfectly in saying, “Feels like one of those free cell phone games,” and to shoot even more shots, states that Activision’s behavior is “pathetic.”
Honestly, very well said. This is a big gaming company and shouldn’t have to resort to advertising their products or little weapon loadouts at every little instance that it can. Another Reddit user called ScaryGent has probably said what many players are thinking—that these ads are “going to be the thing that makes me quit.”
The problem? Most of them are split because “there’s no real alternative.” Which is one of the worst parts. A lot of people are hoping Battlefield 6 comes along to give Call of Duty a little competition for once. It’s been the big fish in the pond for too long.
Another post by TideShark points out that the ads have even been added to the events page of the game, too. This is leading a lot of players to joke that they can’t tell the difference between the console game and Call of Duty Mobile anymore.
So yeah, Call of Duty players are getting pretty tired of being advertised to. If that’s what Activision was going for, they’re doing a very spectacular job! If not, they need to start rethinking their strategies when it comes to trying to get players to buy more of their extra goodies.
