Crisol Theater of Idols is the newest game by Blumhouse and was featured at this year’s Tokyo Game Show 2025 Hands-On Preview. As a first-person horror action game set in Hispania, people have compared this game to Resident Evil. The Hands-On Preview showcased gameplay, game locations, enemies, and a beautiful aesthetic based on Spanish culture. Here’s what players experienced at the Tokyo Game Show Hands-On Preview and what they have to say about it.
Crisol Theater of Idols is a first-person horror action game set in a fictional place called Hispania, based on the country of Spain. It’s a twisted version of Spain, where you play as a soldier named Gabriel, who can use his blood as a weapon against doll-like creatures roaming the streets of Hispania. There’s a chilling history to Hispania and secrets to the island of Tormentosa, and players must fight to survive the nightmare that’s been thrust upon them.
Now, like I said, Gabriel can use his blood and fuse them with weapons to be able to kill the doll-like enemies you come across. The Hands-On Preview showcased things from gameplay to a little bit of the story, according to players. Players were tasked with escaping the backstreets of Hispania while fighting off hordes of enemies. This is where the preview shows how your blood can transform your weapons to kill your enemies, and how this feature of the game acts as a double-edged sword. Fusing your blood with your weapons grants you power; however, each shot drains your life as well, so players definitely have to strategize during combat.
The preview takes you to fighting a boss-sized enemy, 3 times the size of regular enemies, and sensitive to hearing, so it can hear your literal footsteps. Players have likened the enemy to Mr. X from Resident Evil 2, and the overall aesthetic of the game to Resident Evil 4.
Many players were thoroughly impressed by the preview. Its influence by Resident Evil and the celebration of Spanish culture you can find sprinkled throughout the game, makes for an exciting horror survival game, jam-packed with action, and keeps players engaged every step of the way. The game has also reached 100 thousand wishlists on Steam, which is a testament to the response from players and how well it’s been recieved. There’s yet to be a release date for the game; however, Crisol Theater of Idols is expected to release later this year.
