Demon Spore is a new roguelike developed by DinoBoss and published by Null Games, and will be available on Steam this July. The demo is currently available on Steam, where players can test the mechanics and features of the game ahead of its summer release. Only the first level is currently available in the demo version, but that’s enough for players to get a feel for the overall 80s monster movie-inspired mayhem.
Demon Spore will be an action-horror roguelike set in a Protagenics research facility. Players will assume the role of a scientist responsible for creating rapidly growing livestock gone wrong. As the chaos ensues, players will be tasked with navigating the tight corridors while encountering the grotesque tentacle amalgamation.
• Co-op Mode: Demon Spore is adding something unheard of these days, the option for couch co-op. Each playable character has unique skills and equipment, further incentivizing remote or couch co-op for the full experience.
• Playable Characters: There are four playable characters in Demon Spore: Lead Scientist, Lab Assistant, Security Guard, and Lab Manager.
• Dynamic Environment: Each run through this experimental facility will be procedurally generated layouts, making it so no two encounters are alike. Because the lab will be procedurally generated, players will be forced to improvise most of their runs and adapt to changing conditions.
• Medical Weaponry: The game will offer various experimental weapons to choose from, like a scalpel thrower and a Tesla coil gun. Players can also manipulate their environment by utilizing hazardous materials such as acid, fire, and electricity to make traps for the monster.
Whether players dive into the demo now or wait until the full release in July, Demon Spore looks like a solid co-op release. Whether you can escape the lab or not depends on you and your team’s quick thinking. Either way, the mutated abomination awaits.
