Demonschool is out now for PC and consoles. The turn-based tactics RPG came out November 19. The gameplay is similar to the first three Persona games – Revelations: Persona and its sequels Persona 2: Innocent Sin and Persona 2: Eternal Punishment.

The game was developed by Necrosoft Games and was published by Ysbryd Games. Ysbryd Games is known for publishing games such as Va-11-Hall-A and World of Horror. The game is Steam Deck verified and currently has Very Positive reviews on Steam.

Demonschool’s Influences

On Necrosoft Games’ website, Demonschool’s description says, “As Faye and her misfit companions, players must defeat monstrous creatures in the space between human and demon worlds while navigating university life on a mysterious island.”

The game’s influences include 70s Italian horror films and the art of Suehiro Maruo. The game has been delayed a couple of times; first to the beginning of 2025 and then to November to make way for Hollow Knight: Silksong.

Josh Broadwell of Polygon wrote that Demonschool “needs remedial classes.” He wrote, “endless quips and limited character development get a low grade.” Broadwell noted that the game’s monsters are dull and forgettable. He wrote, “The best monsters say something about the time or place that gives rise to them or the people they’re meant to reflect. Even Resident Evil’s monstrosities are tied to things like the futile obsession with perfection and eternal youth. Demonschool’s are just… there.”

Mollie Taylor of PCGamer rated the game an 86 out of 100. She wrote, “The way Demonschool weaves old-school apocalyptic vibes with tactics-based combat brought out the beast. I devoured it in a matter of days, and it pulled off something no other RPG has managed before: make me fall in love with the ways of the isometric grid.”

Bex Prouse of GameGrin writes, “The soundtrack is brilliant, somehow being spooky, atmospheric, and oddly cosy at times. With 2.5D animation, I really appreciated the pixel art and the way characters interact with the environments.”

Prouse continues, “While I wish that I could have less of a rest time when learning abilities to use in battle, I think that this offers a good amount of challenge.” Prouse gave the game an 8 out of 10, stating it’s a “fun experience for fans of turn-based battle.”
