As promised during the two developer livestreams for Destiny 2, we have a Dev Insight Blog. Much like the recent developer content, there is some new and old information for the Edge of Fate. The Dev Insight details some of the rewards and how we will obtain them in the upcoming expansion. One of the more interesting items to discuss is the new seasonal mods.

Destiny 2 Gear Tiers

By now, most players should be familiar with Destiny 2 gear tiering in the Edge of Fate. The blog gave a refresher on how weapons are affected by gear tiers:

  • Tier 1
    • Base weapon, can use new seasonal mods once acquired.
  • Tier 2
    • Enhanced traits
  • Tier 3
    • Drops with two traits per column
  • Tier 4
    • Enhanced weapon mods (Including Seasonal)
    • Enhanced weapon components (like barrels and magazines)
  • Tier 5
    • Enhanced origin traits
    • Three traits per column
    • Access to a unique ornament (with a unique shader) and a unique combat flair

Masterworked Weapons

In the Edge of Fate, masterworked weapons are getting additional stats. On top of the +10 they originally get for the designated stat, all masterworks receive one stat point in each weapon stat. Essentially, this means that if you have a masterworked tier 5 weapon, it receives 5 points to each stat.

Seasonal Mods

Seasonal mods were introduced with Episode: Heresy, and they are making a return in the Edge of Fate. Instead of being available for a specific set, it will apply to every seasonal weapon fitting the archetype. Below is the list of the seasonal mods:

  • Temporal Loader
    • This weapon loads ammo from reserves when dealing damage to targets that are slowed, frozen, or suspended.
  • Temporal Tracker
    • Gain bonus aim assistance or projectile tracking for a moderate duration after picking up an Orb of Power.
  • Temporal Adapter
    • Readying this weapon grants it bonus stability, handling, and reload speed for a moderate duration that is borrowed from an alternate timeline version of the weapon. Swords gain a bonus charge rate and guard resistance.
  • Temporal Armaments
    • This weapon gains bonus damage versus Cabal and Vex targets.
  • Temporal Blast
    • This weapon stores a portion of its damage dealt into Charges. At five Charges, the weapon’s next shot creates an explosive blast on impact that damages nearby enemies.

How Will You Earn Destiny 2 Gear?

At the start of the Edge of Fate, Destiny 2 players will earn Tier 1 gear. The predominant focus will be on increasing power, with only select gear being Tier 2. From there, players can earn higher tiers through playing on Kepler or using the Portal. Once the raid opens, players will have more challenges to earn pinnacle-tier gear, but they are keeping that a secret for now.
