The release of the Rite of the Nine version of Prophecy in Destiny 2 is around the corner. With its release comes four weapons that players can farm. One of those is the Pulse Rifle, Relentless. Relentless was added to the Prophecy Loot Pool with the refresh to the dungeon during Season of the Wish. The Rite of Nine event sees changes to the weapon’s perks to hopefully increase its potency.
Relentless is a High Impact Frame Strand Pulse Rifle. The weapon is one of the few Strand Pulse Rifles in Destiny 2. As a result, it should be a high priority for many players, especially in PvE. However, given its Frame, it falls behind other Strand Pulse Rifles in PvE. It shines brighter in the PvP realm, but still has its struggles against other Pulse Rifles.
Relentless has twelve perks in total. The left column contains Firefly, Keep Away, Lone Wolf, Rapid Hit, Slice, and Tear. The right column’s perks are Closing Time, Desperado, Elemental Honing, Hatchling, Headseeker, and Paracasual Affinity.
Relentless has two combinations for PvE players. The first is Strand-related with Tear in the left column and Hatchling in the right column. While High-Impact Pulse Rifles struggle to take advantage of this combination, it is still something players should consider if they want to play toward Stand-focused builds.
The other combination is Firefly and Elemental Honing. The niche use case of this is that the explosion from Firefly counts as Solar. That means Relentless will always have a minimum of two Elemental Honing Stacks, regardless of your build. Introducing other elemental damage is an easy task, meaning you will not have to cook in the kitchen to ensure you get five Elemental Honing Stacks. Prismatic makes your life significantly better in this regard.
Relentless will perform best in the Crucible. High-Impact Frames have historically been near the top of the PvP meta for Pulse Rifles. This gun is nearly at the top of the list but falls behind The Messenger and Elsie’s Rifle.
The left column has choices based on a player’s preference. You can choose between Keep Away or Lone Wolf. Keep Away is better for players who want to maintain distance from their opponents. Lone Wolf is for players who do not want to play close to their teammates. Both perks suffer from the fact that some maps might force you to be close to either your teammates or your opponents.
The right column has one clear favorite. Headseeker increases the time to kill for players who struggle to land precision hits consistently. Even one body shot from a burst will activate the perk. The other option some might consider is Desperado. Since the nerfs to the perk, players have moved away from using it, since it does not provide enough increased fire rate to justify the use of the perk.
The Pulse Rifle will drop from the Rite of the Nine version of Prophecy. Every chest in the Prophecy dungeon has a chance to drop Relentless. Players can attune to the Pulse Rifle to increase their chances of obtaining the weapon. Given the existence of an extra chest in the previous dungeons, it is likely that Prophecy will have a chest spawn after completing the Blight section before the Cube Room. For another chance at getting Relentless, you can spend 250 Nonary Manifolds at the Eternity chest. There are four versions of the weapon that drop for players: Base, Base Holofoil, Adept, and Adept Holofoil.
