With the upcoming Ash and Iron update just days away, the Destiny 2 team released the sandbox updates coming with the Major Update. The community has welcomed some changes announced by Bungie. However, the other changes have left a poor taste in players’ mouths. From unnecessary changes, misunderstanding the problems of the sandbox, and not heavily nerfing a PvP-dominant exotic, the community is aggravated.
Graviton Spike has become a significant problem in the PvP space since the start of the Edge of Fate in Destiny 2. The damage, coupled with its proc effect, has made it a terror for players to deal with. Players were hoping the changes made to the Exotic would take it out of S tier; however, that is not the case. With only nerfing the activation time of its perk, Bungie has made it clear that they want Graviton Spike to be a dominant force in the meta.
The other dominating element of the sandbox has been the super generation from primary ammo weapons. Outbreak Perfected, Barrow Dyad, and the Hierarchy of Needs have been the dominant choices for PvE players in endgame content. All three have had their Super generation reduced. However, this is a band-aid fix to a systemic issue. The best way to fix the problem is to lower the amount of super energy that primary ammo weapons contribute.
Buffing Cyrtarachne’s Facade is another element of the Sandbox tuning that players have found. While buffing it specifically for Strand hunter is fine, the buff affecting Spirit of Cyrtarachne is problematic. It is one of the go-to choices for Hunter players, and increasing its effectiveness will limit the build choices for players.
Not all the changes announced in the Destiny 2 sandbox tuning article are problematic. The adjustment to Gambler’s Dodge, allowing it to restore double energy near combatants, is perfect. The change is what players have requested before Edge of Fate was released. Another problem has been that some Grenade and Melee stats increase the total output of the supers. It has caused them to do more damage than intended. One of those is the Silkstrike super for Hunters, which would match players using their weapon.
