We are in the homestretch of the wait for Mario Kart World to release alongside the Nintendo Switch 2. Despite complaints about the high price, fans are still excited to race through the open world. Now, a new Japanese advertisement seems to display a style of racing that was originally planned for an earlier game in the beloved series.
A new Japanese advertisement for the game shows footage of various features we’ve seen in other ads, such as driving off-road and the karts changing into planes. However, as ScreenRant has pointed out, you can see Bowser Jr. racing on the Mario Kart Circuit Track, but the track appears to be in reverse. This has gotten fans discussing if Mario Kart World will feature a Reverse Cup Mode.
In Mario Kart games, Mirror Mode flips the track’s turns, making left turns into right turns and vice versa, letting you experience the tracks in a new way. However, Reverse Mode was a mode planned for the GameCube‘s Mario Kart: Double Dash, where you could begin races at the finish line and race to the starting line. It was scrapped from Double Dash, but it was included in the mobile game Mario Kart Tour. Could Mario Kart World be the first mainline Mario Kart game to include this feature?
As ScreenRant stated, the footage could merely be “what happens when you race between Crown City and Mario Bros. Circuit in Vs mode.” Since every track is connected in Mario Kart World, driving in reverse on a track might be a shortcut to get to the next race, so the footage doesn’t confirm a Reverse Mode for this game.
Mario Kart: Double Dash was praised for the innovation it brought to the series, and Mario Kart World is also looking to revolutionize the franchise. Including a Reverse Mode would be a neat way to connect the two games. In addition, Reverse Mode could add an extra layer of challenge after you master racing the regular way. With its $80 price tag, this game should be bursting with content. A Reverse Mode could help boost player satisfaction.
