It’s common sense not to use or store game consoles in extreme temperatures, but humans aren’t known for common sense. If you use a Nintendo Switch 2 in extreme heat or cold, you might damage it. In light of rising temperatures, Nintendo has found it appropriate to release a warning against using your Switch 2 in the heat.
According to Nintendo Everything, Japan had its hottest day on record on Wednesday, with the temperature reaching 41.2 degrees Celsius, or around 106 degrees Fahrenheit. Likely in light of this, Nintendo issued an official warning on X:
“Using Nintendo Switch or Nintendo Switch 2 in a hot environment may cause the console to heat up. This may cause a malfunction, so please use the console in an environment between 5°C and 35°C. We have seen several days recently where temperatures have exceeded 35°C. Please be careful when using the console outdoors.”
The temperature range in Fahrenheit is between 41 degrees and 95 degrees.
The Switch 2 has been largely unavailable in the past few months due to a supply and demand imbalance. However, they are starting to be restocked, meaning that many people might be ordering one from Amazon or Best Buy. When the console arrives, it could theoretically sit in the heat for hours before its recipient gets home from work. Unfortunately, Nintendo doesn’t say what to do in this situation. Probably the best thing to do is keep a vigilant eye out for your package and bring it inside as soon as possible when it arrives.
If you’re thinking of taking your Nintendo Switch 2 to the beach on a hot day, you might want to think twice. You might also want to find something else to entertain the kids on long car rides, unless you are running the air conditioner the whole time. It’s not worth it to risk damaging a $450-$500 investment. Remember this when the temperatures drop in the winter as well.
