A hero of the underworld gaming community has leaked screenshots of Doom: The Dark Ages. We are mere hours away from one of the largest titles being released this year. Doom began as the brainchild of John Carmack, John Romero, Adrian Carmack, Kevin Cloud, and Tom Hall. It’s all about a nameless space marine for the Union Aerospace Corporation who is humanity’s last hope to save Earth from an apocalyptic invasion of demons. The franchise has been growing since 2016 with several sequels, novels, comics, other games, as well as a movie starring a younger Dwayne, ‘The Rock’ Johnson. Now we have The Dark Ages, which has one of the highest reviews of any Doom game yet.
This game has some of the most promising things going for it, but it hasn’t been a perfect launch for this game. Some time ago, someone got their hands on a limited collectors edition before they should have. After playing the game, they leaked everything about the game. They shared the story, twists, elements, as well as screenshots from cutscenes.
There is a point where game teasers become overbearing, where they spoil the games for others. Knowing just what the game is about before its official release is one thing, and hinting at its plot, combat, weapons, and opponents is another. So if you want to learn more about the game before its release and not too much to spoil it, keep going. No Spoilers here.
Doom: The Dark Ages has also had some other problems with several early deliveries, but today is the early access for Xbox Series X/S and PC. The game takes players to a dark medieval world, developed by id Software and published by Bethesda Softworks. It’s the eighth gaming installment and the third of the modern series. If you follow Doom’s gaming, Doom: The Dark Ages takes place years before Doom Eternal.
It is scheduled to be released on the 15th for the previously mentioned consoles as well as the PlayStation 5. Doom has always focused on being a fast-paced, first-person shooter game. Doom: The Dark Ages takes a turn to a more grounded type of combat, favoring a more strategic type of play. The protagonist isn’t just a run-and-gunner but more of a super tank wielding a shotgun and a Saw shield. His shield offers a blocking ability, with its parrying and bashing capabilities.
As to his other weapons, The Dark Ages get new weapons, the Skull Crusher, which is a gun that shoots bone fragments. Talk about giving back to their friends what you have taken from them. With the shield, you also get other melee weapons like the gauntlet, iron mace, and the flail. These are more of what Doom fans are used to, but The Dark Ages has some new features.
Something new to Doom through The Dark Ages is the players’ ability to use vehicles. This adds a new form of travel, battle, and combat, as well as taking down the worst things that Earth has faced. The images do have hope for fans as to staying true to the origins, taking on some of the most disgusting monsters with some famously huge, overpowered guns. The images also show a medieval-type background.
You get to be the biggest monster killing machine in the galaxy in a dragon, mech suit, with the possibility of additions to help you. The suit has its own HUD with everything needed to take down the worst creatures that Hell spits out. Along with the vehicles, it is more of an open land environment than its predecessors.
If you have felt the call to be the Earth’s last hope in beating back the powers of Hell as a weapon-wielding killing machine, then Doom: The Dark Ages is for you. You can get a glimpse of what this game has to offer in the images. If you want more information, it’s out there, but I am a fan of finding out for yourself. So get out there and save humanity, and if you agree with me about leaks and spoilers, leave a comment below.
