Sentinel Barracks Mission Summary

The Sentinel Barracks level in Doom: The Dark Ages is amongst the most intense of the game’s chapters that seamlessly marries brutal combat and rich world-building. Set within a colossal, destroyed fortress previously occupied by the ancient Sentinels, the level tasks the Doom Slayer with penetrating deep into enemy-occupied territories to reclaim crucial weapons and activate the dormant Sentinel Shrine. Along the way, demons are battled in narrow corridors, wide courtyards, and shaky towers.

The level is vertically explored, has secret routes and breakable walls, challenging exploration, and gives great rewards in power-ups and riches. It’s a grimy, atmospheric gauntlet of Doom action and dark fantasy medievalism that sets the tone for the increasingly intense battles that follow in the subsequent chapters.

  • Shield bash through it to open up a room with it and 16 bars of gold.

2. Gold Chest (Secret)

  • Go back to the hallway on the upper floor and continue to the next room. The left door is blocked, so go down the right side into the room’s center.
  • Activate the lift and go to the other side.
  • Look for a wall covered with green slime; shield jump to the ledge above it.

  • Run and jump to climb the ledge, then go along the route to find the Life Sigil and some bars of gold.

4. Ruby (Secret)

  • Locate a statue in the hangar; the ruby is on it.

  • In the city area, walk between two burning buildings to find a ledge with a question mark icon.
  • Climb up to collect the Nightmare Accelerator Weapon Skin.

6. Sentinel Barracks Codex Entry (Collectible)

  • Near the end of the mission, just before the second Sentinel Shrine exterior of the Dragon’s Den, turn left and look for an alley.
  • At the end, next to a burning tree, you’ll discover the Sentinel Barracks Codex Entry.

Tips for Effective Collection

  • Careful Exploration: Move through each area slowly and thoroughly. Secrets are usually in less obvious locations.
  • Use the Map: Look on your map for question mark symbols or unvisited areas that indicate secrets.
  • Listen for Audio Cues: Some collectibles emit distinctive noises when you’re near.
  • Backtrack When Needed: When you’ve obtained a new weapon or power, backtrack through previous areas to access newly reachable secrets.
  • Use Ammo Wisely: This is true for most FPS games, and Doom: The Dark Ages is no different. Don’t blast everything that moves!
