Doomsday Diner is a new restaurant simulation game, where you manage the last hot dog diner in a post-apocalyptic world. This hilarious simulation game is scheduled for release sometime later this year; however, developer Space Rock Games has released a new trailer and playable demo on Steam. Here’s what we know about Doomsday Diner so far, along with what was showcased in the demo now available on Steam.

The Doomsday Diner trailer is pretty short and very straightforward. The first thing you see is a POV shot of a hot dog sliding down a shoot and landing on a grill to be cooked. The hot dog gets shot by the way, a telltale sign that we’re in for a wild ride with this one. The trailer then shows gameplay footage, from frying hot dogs on a grill to serving customers to cleaning. And then there’s the shooting aspect of the game.
One of the more hilarious aspects of Doomsday Diner is the glizzy physics of the controls of the game. Because this is a hot dog diner, the devs paid special attention to the physics of the hot dogs, making sure players knew about it during the tutorial, you know, because it’s a really important game mechanic. You can definitely see the jiggle physics at work during the trailer, especially in the first shot.
Because you own a diner in a post-apocalyptic world, you’re going to deal with raiders, looters, and no do-gooders trying to cause even more mayhem in the world. That’s where you gun come in. To protect your diner and your hard-earned cash, use your gun when necessary, then clear out the trash while you’re at it. The trailer was a hilarious showcase of what we can expect from Doomsday Diner, and it made me want to experience it first-hand through the demo Space Rock Games released on Steam.
I downloaded and played the demo myself, as I was really curious about how this simulation game would feel. It’s as you would expect from a simulation game that has glizzy physics, which the game happily points out during the tutorial. The tutorial is pretty straightforward; pull a hot dog from the shoot, cook it, place a bun on the tray, place the hot dog on the bun, customize the order depending on what the customer wants, then send it out and collect your money. Simple.
This is where it gets weird. The tutorial warns you of an incoming raid and has you pick up a gun underneath your counter. A raider shows up at your shop, and you have to shoot him. After you’ve completed the tutorial, the game explains all the usual things you need to be aware of in a restaurant simulation game, like keeping up with the diner’s reputation, fulfilling orders as quickly as you can to earn more tips, etc. It’s everything you could expect from a simulation game, with the twist of a little bit of action.
My playthrough of the demo was pretty fun. I can’t tell you how addictive simulation games can be because I found myself playing for a couple of hours straight without even realizing it. There’s so much to do and think about in Doomsday Diner that you aren’t left wanting more or dissatisfied with the game. Even though it was only the demo I experienced, there were so many things I had to keep up on, like cooking and cleaning, and dealing with raiders, and I’m pretty excited for the full release of Doomsday Diner.
