EA’s Apology Tour Begins: Battlefield 6 Players Get Freebies After Launch Day Meltdown

Picture this: the day has finally come. You’ve been counting down the hours, minutes, and seconds. You’ve pre-ordered Battlefield 6, a game hyped to be a glorious return to form. The download is complete, you’ve got your snacks ready, and you click “Play.” And then… nothing. Just a cold, digital wall telling you that you can’t get in. For many gamers who bought the title through the EA app, this was the heartbreaking reality of launch day.

It was a classic gaming tragedy. Instead of epic firefights and glorious victories, players were met with frustrating error messages. Some were even bizarrely told they needed to purchase extra DLC just to access the game they already owned. It was a digital blockade that left a sour taste in the mouths of thousands of eager fans, turning a day of celebration into one of massive disappointment.

The outcry was immediate and loud. Social media lit up with frustrated players sharing their tales of woe. Even Respawn head Vince Zampella chimed in on X, bluntly advising affected users to “refund and buy on Steam” and admitting, “I have yelled about EA app people.” When the head of a major studio tells you to buy the game on a competitor’s platform, you know things have gone spectacularly wrong.

DICE’s Apology Tour: Perks and Battle Passes

Thankfully, Battlefield Studios (DICE) didn’t just hide in a foxhole and hope for the best. They quickly acknowledged the mess, admitting, “Today we experienced an outage on the EA app that prevented some of our players who pre-ordered Battlefield 6 from accessing the game. We know this can be frustrating, so we wanted to offer an apology… with perks.”

And the perks are actually pretty awesome. DICE is rolling out a two-part peace offering to mend the broken trust.

First, affected players will find a generous care package waiting for them in their in-game inbox this weekend. This includes 12 Hardware Boosters and 12 Career Boosters. That’s a serious leg-up to help you climb the ranks, unlock the best weapons, and catch up on all that lost time. It’s like a battlefield-grade apology, loaded with XP goodness.

Second, and this is the big one, players will get full access to a seasonal battle pass. If you bought the pricey Phantom Edition, which already includes the Season 1 pass, don’t worry—DICE has you covered. You’ll get the Season 2 battle pass instead. It’s a genuinely solid gesture that goes beyond a simple “oops, our bad.”

Steam’s Own Gremlins: The “Game Not Released” Bug

While EA app users bore the brunt of the launch day chaos, Steam players weren’t entirely safe from the technical gremlins. Several users on Valve’s platform reported a confusing bug where Steam would claim Battlefield 6 wasn’t released yet, even as they were trying to download or play it. Talk about mixed signals!

DICE is on the case for this issue as well. They’ve suggested a potential workaround for players experiencing this headache:

  1. Go to your Steam library and right-click on Battlefield 6.
  2. Select “Properties.”
  3. Untick both the “Battlefield 6 multiplayer HD marker” and “Battlefield multiplayer marker” DLC options.

Some players have also reported success by clearing their Steam download cache or simply restarting the launcher. It’s a bit of a DIY fix, but it’s better than staring at a game you can’t play.

What’s Next for Battlefield 6?

Launch day stumbles are, unfortunately, a part of modern gaming. But the real test of a developer is how they respond. In this case, DICE seems to be making a genuine effort to make things right. The free battle pass and XP boosters are a significant step toward winning back player goodwill.

Despite the initial chaos, Battlefield 6 is already shaping up to be a monster hit. It’s rocketing up the Steam charts and earning rave reviews, hailing it as the triumphant return we’ve all been hoping for after the mixed reception of Battlefield 2042.

As the servers stabilize and the freebies roll out, the launch day fiasco will hopefully become just a footnote in the game’s history. For now, it’s time to cash in those XP boosters, dive into the fray, and experience the awesome, large-scale warfare that only Battlefield can deliver. See you on the battlefield, soldier!
