The Nintendo Switch has had a good run. After eight years, it’s time to make way for a new console generation with the Nintendo Switch 2. As the world prepares for the new system, a panel at PAX East is looking back at the wonderful Switch 1.

Nintendo Switch Send-Off: Thanks for the Memories!

As the PAX East official site puts it, this panel puts Switch fans together “to give this hybrid console a proper send-off.” It goes on to say, “Together, we will talk about our personal histories with the Nintendo Switch, rank our top five favorite games on the Switch, discuss how the Switch has impacted us throughout the years, and a lot more!”

The Panelists

The panel consists of die-hard Switch fans. They include ShellshockPrime, the event organizer for the gaming group Switch and Play NYC; Sylverstone Khandr, administrator of Switch and Play NYC; OneOneTwo, the moderator of the r/MegaMan Reddit group; Rick Desilets, a content creator for The D-Pad; and Azran127, a streamer. Like the Metroid panel from earlier today, this panel consists of fans, not developers, and their purpose is to simply enjoy being fans.

The Switch’s Legacy

This is one panel that I really wish the PAX East site was streaming. Like many others, I have spent many hours on my cherished Switch. Games like Super Mario Odyssey, The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild, Animal Crossing: New Horizons, Super Smash Bros. Ultimate, and Metroid Dread will be forever remembered as classics. The fact that you could play the system both on your TV and in portable form meant that it was a great system for both hectic multiplayer parties and private handheld adventures.

Conclusion

Gamers are anxious for the Nintendo Switch 2, but as the panel demonstrates, they will not forget the Switch 1. The first Switch has been one of the best-selling game consoles of all time, and it has carried so many fantastic titles. As we look forward to playing Mario Kart World and Donkey Kong Bananza on the Switch 2, we will always remember the time spent with Mario Kart 8 Deluxe and Super Smash Bros. Ultimate on the original Switch.
