If you’re a fan of mythological video games that blend cultural storytelling with high-octane action (God of War, Okami, Asura’s Wrath—you know the vibe), keep your eyes on this one: Unleash the Avatar, coming Fall 2026.
Developed entirely in India by Aeos, a company started by Varun Mayya, this upcoming AAA title is aiming sky-high, and what we’ve seen so far suggests it might actually get there. This isn’t just another indie gem with a cool concept. This is an action-adventure game that’s culturally grounded, graphically stunning, and boldly modern, with a storyline based on Ramayana—but reimagined for the 21st century.
One of the most jaw-dropping aspects of Unleash the Avatar is its dedication to realism. The game world isn’t loosely inspired by India—it is India. The devs scanned an entire real-life town—Chanderi—capturing buildings, fruit stands, vehicles, and more, resulting in over 1,000 meticulously detailed assets. That’s right: they blocked off the whole town to scan it.
All of this was done using the Unity Engine, which makes the detail even more impressive. The streets, market stalls, and local architecture are visually faithful to the real Chanderi, making this one of the most authentic Indian environments ever put into a game.
So what’s the story? Unleash the Avatar is a modern-day version of the Ramayana—one of the most iconic legends in Indian mythology. The main character is Prince Rana, and while the developers haven’t released all the plot details yet, we know that he’s stepping into a divine legacy, likely through transformative “Avatar” powers.
And yes, the combat looks as slick as it sounds. The alpha footage has been described as “Sekiro-like,” which is high praise for a pre-release title. Smooth animations, tight melee encounters, and dynamic movement hint at a game that’s built not just for spectacle, but for skill-based action.
This isn’t Aeos’s first rodeo—but it’s definitely their biggest. The studio boasts a dream team of developers and artists with experience on Ghost of Tsushima, Hogwarts Legacy, and even Ant-Man: Quantumania. It’s a blend of East and West, combining AAA talent with homegrown ambition. Varrun Mayya has created an ultimate dream team for Unleash the Avatar, we see!
And they’re not stopping at realism. The team is actively working on adding more Indian influence to the game, from the musical score to a dash of Bollywood flair in the final version. If they pull it off, it’ll be something truly unique in the gaming landscape.
With its alpha gameplay already impressing early viewers and a powerful cultural foundation, Unleash the Avatar could become India’s first global breakout game. It’s giving us Sekiro vibes with a mythological twist and a fresh setting that feels overdue in AAA gaming.
And if the final product is anything like the dev footage we’ve seen? This could be the game that puts Indian game development on the map.
The countdown to Fall 2026 has officially begun. Aeos might as well just take our money if everything works out perfectly!
