Fire-Type Pokémon Tier List for Pokémon Legends Z-A

S-Tier

The undisputed champions of the Fire type. These Pokémon possess incredible power, game-changing Mega Evolutions, and the ability to single-handedly turn the tide of battle.

• Mega Charizard X & Y: Charizard is blessed with two phenomenal Mega Evolutions. Mega Charizard Y becomes a devastating special attacker with the Drought ability to boost its Fire-type moves. Mega Charizard X trades its Flying-type for a Dragon-typing, becoming a monstrous physical attacker with the Tough Claws ability. This versatility makes Charizard a top-tier threat.
• Mega Delphox: The Kalos starter’s Mega Evolution pushes its already high Special Attack, Special Defense, and Speed to new levels. This transforms Delphox into a premier special sweeper that can outpace and overpower a wide range of opponents.
• Mega Chandelure: Chandelure has always been a special attack powerhouse, and its Mega Evolution amplifies this trait. With its new form, it gains a significant boost to its Special Attack and defenses, making it a bulky and terrifyingly strong ghost-flame user.
• Mega Houndoom, Mega Emboar, & Mega Pyroar: This trio of Megas brings immense power to the table. Mega Houndoom becomes a faster special attacker with the Solar Power ability, Mega Emboar gains tremendous bulk and attack, and Mega Pyroar’s speed and special stats make it a formidable offensive presence.

A-Tier

These Pokémon are exceptionally powerful and reliable choices that can anchor any team. They are just a step below the S-tier but are still considered elite.

• Charizard, Chandelure, & Delphox: Even without their Mega forms, these three are top-class Fire-types. Charizard’s dual Fire/Flying typing and balanced stats make it versatile, Chandelure boasts one of the highest Special Attack stats among non-legendary Pokémon, and Delphox’s Fire/Psychic typing gives it unique coverage.
• Talonflame: Known for its blistering Speed and the Gale Wings ability (which historically gave priority to Flying-type moves), Talonflame is an excellent offensive pivot that can strike fast and hard with moves like Brave Bird and Flare Blitz.
• Houndoom: A solid Fire/Dark-type with great Speed and Special Attack, making it a strong offensive threat even before it Mega Evolves.

B-Tier

Reliable and effective, B-Tier Pokémon are strong contenders that perform well but lack the overwhelming presence of the higher tiers.

• Emboar: This Fire/Fighting starter has a high Attack stat and good HP, making it a capable physical brawler, though its speed holds it back.
• Flareon: As one of Eevee’s evolutions, Flareon boasts an incredible base 130 Attack stat. While its movepool can be limited, it can hit like a truck with physical Fire-type attacks.
• Pyroar & Camerupt: Pyroar has great Speed and Special Attack, making it a decent offensive choice. Camerupt’s Fire/Ground typing is unique, but its 4x weakness to Water and low Speed are significant drawbacks, even with its powerful Mega Evolution.

C-Tier

This tier consists of Pokémon that are serviceable but generally outclassed. They are mostly middle-evolution forms that have yet to reach their full potential.

• Simisear: One of the “elemental monkeys,” Simisear has balanced but thoroughly mediocre stats that prevent it from excelling in any specific role.
• Braixen, Combusken, Fletchinder, Lampent, & Pignite: As middle-stage evolutions, these Pokémon are on their way to becoming great but aren’t strong enough to compete with fully evolved counterparts. They serve their purpose during a playthrough but should be evolved quickly.

D-Tier

These Pokémon are in their first evolutionary stage and are not recommended for serious battles. Their primary purpose is to be trained and evolved into their much more powerful later forms.

• Charmander, Fennekin, Torchic, & Tepig: As unevolved starter Pokémon, they have good potential but need to evolve to become viable in combat.
• Litleo, Litwick, Numel, Houndour, & Pansear: These are all first-stage Pokémon that are significantly weaker than their evolved forms and should be leveled up as a priority.
