The Real Face of a VTuber is a visual novel-style game developed by Lilien Games and released on January 13, 2026. I received a Steam game key for free to review, but my reflections will be unbiased by this.
After a few hours of gameplay, the game’s style and the gameplay rhythm have become pretty clear. My version of the game is the full release, so all of the game’s elements were present.
In the Real Face of a VTuber, you’re Justin Truth, a legal prosecutor, and it’s your job to investigate the murder of the owner of a VTuber agency. You’re assisted by your secretary, Emily Close, as well as a police investigator. Your suspects are the six employees of the agency.
You’re tasked with figuring out who killed the boss while sorting out the truth from testimony given by the suspects. The trouble is that everyone seems to have something to hide, including who the real face is behind Kuripa, the VTuber character.
You’ll spend the game talking to the various characters, including the secretary and the copy. You have the opportunity to question the suspects. Then you can review the information you received. In the first chapter, you’ve collected enough information to accuse someone. But then there’s a complication and things become even more confused!
For Chapter 2, you enter another cycle of talking to everyone and trying to sift through the creative responses of the suspects.
I went into the game with no expectations except that the concept sounded interesting. Very early on, the dialogue had me laughing out loud. The writers embraced humor so far. Additionally, there is a lot of sexual innuendo. Some of it isn’t very subtle.
Each character has a unique backstory and personality. Learning about their quirks and how they interact with each other is amusing and makes each of them memorable. Kudos to the writers for a good job creating such colorful characters.
The art style is very anime. It lends itself well to the story being told and to the characters’ personalities. There isn’t much actual animation. The game is full of static images that sometimes change to show movement. Occasionally, the screen will shake to indicate you’ve been slapped. Yep. Slapped. It’s amusing.
The soundtrack hasn’t left much of an impression on me. It fades to the background, which seems to make sense for this type of game. Also, it’s worth noting that I was livestreaming the game to YouTube and Twitch, so I was reading the conversation aloud.

So far, The Real Face of a VTuber, developed by Lilien Games, has been a lot of fun. There have been many laugh-out-loud moments in the conversations, and the characters are interesting, so I want to know more about them. I honestly don’t have many negatives about the game. The few typos don’t detract from the experience too much.
The story structure makes sense. Reply options in the conversations offer a good variety and some fun options. The reveals are entertaining and provide new information while raising more questions. So it’s a good mystery overall.
