Game Science, the developer of Black Myth: Wukong, just announced a sequel to the titular game called Black Myth: Zhong Kui at Gamescom Opening Night Live. This comes as an incredible lineup of game trailers was announced and dropped, with Black Myth: Zhong Kui as one that fans definitely were not expecting. Here’s a breakdown of the teaser trailer.

Black Myth: Zhong Kui

Just like Wukong, Zhong Kui will be based on the classic Chinese folk tale. The trailer is set to Chinese folk music, starting off with two fleeing men who become silent as two ogre-like creatures approach, holding what seems like a large sword, and Zhong Kui riding a tiger. This teases the art style and incredible graphics; however, it withholds any in-game footage as the game is still in early development. If it is anything like Wukong, it will be a single-player fantastical experience that will leave fans excited for its release.

Wukong’s Success

It’s been a couple of years since Black Myth: Wukong was released, and it shattered records. It sold over 10 million copies within a few days of release, making it the fastest-selling game in history. It also achieved the second-highest peak player count on Steam, with over 2.4 million players playing simultaneously. Wukkong received overwhelmingly positive reviews and popularized Chinese culture and folklore on the global market. With all these accomplishments, it isn’t a stretch to say that Zhong Kui will do as well as its predecessor. Player hype is already high following the teaser trailer, as we await further updates on the game.

According to the developers of the game, “Judging by the name, ‘Black Myth: Zhong Kui’ shares the same foundation of ancient Chinese myth and folklore. In terms of genre, it will remain a standard single-player ARPG, following the same business model as before. However, you won’t be playing a monkey role this time. That said, we’re still exploring and experimenting with the concrete differences between Wukong and Zhong Kui.” There is no release date yet, so don’t expect the game to drop anytime soon. However, expect more juicy tidbits and trailers in the meantime, and enjoy every single one until release!
