Genshin Impact Unveils 100th Playable Character Through Drip Marketing Campaign

Genshin Impact has really mastered the art of the drip campaign. It is something they have been using to market new content for a while now, and that did not stop with their most recent announcement. In a post on Reddit, the game producers dropped an image of the new character and a small bit of information about them. As it turns out, the character is none other than Skirk, a fantastic teammate for Shenhe. The post was simply captioned, “The stars fade to black…”

So, what is there to know about Genshin Impact’s newest character? There are a few basic characteristics that can be highlighted:

• Name: Skirk
• Title: Void Star
• Rarity: 5-Star
• Element: Cryo
• Weapon: Sword
• Constellation: Crystallina

Aside from these baselines that are so important to Genshin Impact gameplay, there is more to Skirk’s story. She has been part of the storyline since the very beginning, and was even present physically in the game during Fontaine’s Archon Quest. According to Game Rant:

Unlike other characters, Skirk wields the power of the Abyss to mimic one of the seven Elements of Teyvat. As a Cryo hypercarry, she is intended to be the centerpiece of a Freeze team, one ideally comprised of Furina, Escoffier, and either Shenhe or Yelan. This makes Skirk in Genshin Impact one of the most expensive characters to invest in, but her ability kit is certainly rewarding enough to justify the investment.

Playing as Skirk in Genshin Impact will be costly for players, though. The event banners based around Skirk’s best team will require a team that costs nearly 5x the amount of Intertwined Wishes that free-to-play users can even acquire in total during the event. That said, the teammates can be acquired on different runs. Skirk appears to be a great addition to the game overall, though, and a worthy character to take the 100th spot.

Final Thoughts

Genshin Impact has managed to build itself from a free-to-play game from an independent and lesser-known, albeit large, gaming studio, into a truly infamous and highly successful RPG title. That the game has managed to introduce 100 characters over the span of the many updates, most recently 5.7, speaks to the growth, popularity, and longevity of the gacha game. Many recent gacha games fade over time, but Genshin Impact just continues to blow up. The next update, Version 5.7, is set to launch on June 18 for Android, iOS, PlayStation 4, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series, and PC.
