Ghost Frequency is an indie horror game developed by PIT Games that truly works to give users a true-to-life experience like no other. The team worked tirelessly to gain insight into the world of ghost hunting and bring that experience to gaming sets in a way that has not been done before. That does not mean the horror elements are in full-steam ahead mode either, though. This psychological thriller will truly test the limits of the human mind, not through what players know, but what they do not. Indie horror is taking over the gaming industry in 2025, and Ghost Frequency aims to be a distinct part of that discussion.
The goal of Ghost Frequency is to accurately depict the elements of real-life ghost hunting, as told through a first-person body cam. By bringing in actual ghost hunting knowledge through the fieldwork of the Paranormal Investigation Team (PIT) and their popular Ghost Finder application. That said, while the foundation is built with true technical experience, the layers of bricks built upon that foundation are a true psychological horror that will mess with players’ minds.
“The oldest and strongest emotion of mankind is fear, and the oldest and strongest kind of fear is fear of the unknown.” This is the quote that the team took to heart when applying the concept of horror to Ghost Frequency, and they do so brilliantly. As players play as the protagonist, Mark, they quickly realize that everything is not as it seems. Originally attempting to investigate the disappearance of two fellow ghost investigators, Mark soon finds himself in a battle for survival against the very paranormal phenomena he has spent his life hunting.
One of the key features of Ghost Frequency is allowing players to have hands-on experience with the actual PIT technology. This includes the Ghost Finder app with the EMF Detector, EVP Recorder, and Infrared Thermal Camera. Players must make good use of the tools they are afforded to find the paranormal entities haunting the house. That is where the horror comes in. Searching for ghosts leaves the player in a constant state of fear and anticipation that messes with the mind and psyche, and when those horrifying creatures do appear, the chills and heart-pounding fear kick in.
Survive the night and discover the mystery lurking in the halls, or die trying. A simple concept, but a first-rate and unique experience to get there. The full launch trailer can be found below.
While there has been some mixed reaction so far to Ghost Frequency, I am not entirely sure the negativity is warranted. The game is precisely what it says it will be, and pulls the execution off incredibly well. Players who want an experience in ghost hunting while still playing a challenging horror survival game, this game is for you. If the technical side of things is not your cup of tea, or are looking for a narrative-driven horror, it won’t be.
Going into the game with accurate expectations makes the game as enjoyable as it is bone-chilling. Ghost Frequency is available for Steam right now for $4.99 and is discounted for the first two weeks of release, and will be available May 29 on Nintendo Switch for $6.99. A free demo is also available for download on Steam. Happy hunting!
