Ground-Type Pokémon Tier List for Pokémon Legends Z-A

S-Tier

This tier is reserved for the titans of the terrain. These Pokémon possess overwhelming power, game-changing Mega Evolutions, and the ability to single-handedly shake up the entire battlefield.

• Mega Garchomp: A pseudo-legendary that becomes a true force of nature. Mega Garchomp boasts a monstrous Attack stat, turning it into a devastating physical sweeper capable of tearing through opponents with moves like Earthquake and Dragon Claw.
• Mega Zygarde: The guardian of the Kalos region reaches a new level of power with its Mega Evolution. Already possessing incredible stats in its 50% and Complete Formes, Mega Zygarde gains a massive boost to its Special Attack, making it a versatile and nearly unstoppable threat.
• Mega Steelix & Mega Excadrill: This pair of Steel/Ground Megas are masters of offense and defense. Mega Steelix becomes an impenetrable physical wall with a ludicrous Defense stat. Meanwhile, Mega Excadrill gets a huge boost to its already high Attack, solidifying its role as a top-tier sweeper.
• Mega Camerupt: This Mega Evolution transforms Camerupt into a slow but terrifyingly powerful mixed attacker. Its stats are heavily skewed towards offense, making its Fire and Ground-type attacks incredibly potent, though its 4x weakness to Water requires careful play.
• Zygarde: Even without a Mega Stone, Zygarde is a legendary force. Its ability to change between its 50% and Complete Formes gives it immense bulk and power, making it one of the most resilient Pokémon in the game.

A-Tier

A-Tier Pokémon are exceptional combatants that can easily anchor a successful team. They are incredibly powerful and reliable, falling just short of the sheer dominance of the S-Tier.

• Garchomp & Excadrill: In their base forms, these two are still top-class threats. Garchomp is a fast and powerful physical attacker with a great Dragon/Ground typing. Excadrill’s Steel/Ground typing gives it a wealth of resistances and immunities, making it a reliable offensive pivot.
• Krookodile: A strong physical attacker with a fantastic Dark/Ground typing. Its high Attack stat and good Speed make it a consistent threat that can pressure many common Pokémon.
• Hippowdon: A premier physical wall and weather setter. Hippowdon has excellent HP and Defense stats, allowing it to absorb physical hits with ease while supporting the team by setting up Sandstorm.

B-Tier

These Pokémon are solid and dependable choices that perform their roles well. They have more noticeable flaws than the tiers above but are more than capable of holding their own.

• Steelix & Camerupt: Both are highly effective but truly shine when they Mega Evolve. In their base forms, Steelix is an excellent physical wall, while Camerupt is a decent mixed attacker held back by low speed.
• Diggersby: Don’t underestimate this rabbit. Its Normal/Ground typing gives it two immunities (Ghost and Electric), and it has a surprisingly high Attack stat that allows it to hit much harder than expected.

C-Tier

This tier consists of Pokémon that are either situational or simply outclassed by stronger options. Many are middle-stage evolutions that are still on their path to greatness.

• Pupitar: As the middle evolution of Tyranitar, it has decent defensive stats but loses its Ground-typing upon evolving. It’s a temporary stopgap.
• Onix, Gabite, Krokorok, & Hippopotas: These are middle-stage or first-stage evolutions that serve their purpose during a playthrough but need to evolve to compete in tougher battles.
• Stunfisk: Its unique typing and decent bulk give it a niche, but its overall stats are mediocre, and it lacks the offensive presence to be a major threat.

D-Tier

This tier is composed of first-stage Pokémon that are not suited for difficult battles. Their primary value lies in their potential to evolve into the much stronger Pokémon in the higher tiers.

• Gible, Drilbur, Sandile, Numel, & Larvitar: All of these Pokémon are at the beginning of their evolutionary lines. They are essential for completing your Pokédex but need to be trained and evolved before they can contribute meaningfully in combat.
