While you’re waiting until you can get a Nintendo Switch 2, why not give a LEGO Game Boy set a try? If you’re a nineties kid and you miss that gray brick, or you’re just curious about what all the fuss was about, you can build your own LEGO Game Boy, complete with retro cartridges.

The LEGO Game Boy Set

LEGO’s official site shows off the LEGO Game Boy, advertising that you can “Relive the thrill you felt when you first played on the Game Boy™ with this LEGO® model kit for Nintendo® video game lovers.” A press release also states that, “the LEGO Game Boy model building kit is a testament to a classic era in gaming and with authentic details and much-loved features is a nostalgic throwback to the classic system.” The 421-piece set aims to make the completed project as authentic as possible.

So Is It Worth the Fuss?

After you’ve finished building, you’ll have a nearly 1:1 scale model of the Game Boy. The buttons are pressable, and you’ll even have replica “cartridges” of Super Mario Land and The Legend of Zelda: Link’s Awakening. The set even includes lenticular screens, letting you change the screen to a Game Boy startup screen or a still from either Super Mario Land or Link’s Awakening. In the pictures on LEGO’s official site, the finished project looks almost exactly like a real Game Boy, just a bit chunkier.

How Much Does It Cost?

The set costs $59.99, and it is currently available for pre-order. It will be released on October 1st. If you’re an adult who enjoys both gaming and LEGO sets, this might be something to pick up. However, if you’re planning to pick it up for your kids, bear in mind that the official LEGO site recommends the LEGO Game Boy for ages eighteen and up. For those who are nostalgic for the Game Boy, however, this should be a fun little project.
