Honkai Star Rail Buffs Old Character – 4 Fan Favorites Given Massive Changes

Honkai: Star Rail has a very rapid progression of power, more so than Genshin Impact or ZZZ. As a result, many of the early characters have either fallen out of meta or are only viable because they are so niche. In an effort to help ameliorate this disparity, Hoyo has “changed” 4 characters from Version 1. Hopefully, these “Buffs” will breathe new life into these old favorites.

Silver Wolf: Needed These the Most

The changes made to Silver Wolf are as follows:

  1. The chance to implant a Weakness with her Skill has been increased. Furthermore, it prioritizes the Weakness of the 1st ally in the roster’s Element.
  2. The duration of the implanted Weakness and the RES reduction to the Element in question is increased.
  3. The All-Type RES reduction from her Skill has been increased.
  4. Ultimate is now AoE and has a higher base chance.
  5. The base chance to implant a “Bug” with her Talent is increased.
  6. Her DEF reduction “Bug” reduces more DEF.
  7. If an enemy is defeated, the Weakness implanted in them will transfer to a surviving enemy that hasn’t been implanted with a Weakness by Silver World (prioritizing Elites and above).
  8. Base chance to implant a “Bug” after implanting a Weakness has increased. This is part of her Trace Ability: Generate.
  9. Inject (Trace Ability) completely changed. Now it gives Silver Wolf 20 Energy when the battle starts, and she regenerates 5 Energy whenever her turn starts.
  10. Trace Ability: Side Note, also completely changed. Now, for every 10% Effect Hit Rate Silver Wolf has, her ATK is increased by 10%. Max 50%.
  11. Her 2nd Eidolon: Zombie Network now increases the amount of DMG enemies take by 20%. Also, when enemies are attacked by allies, Silver Wolf has a 100% base chance to implant 1 random “Bug” on the attacked enemy target.
  12. Her 4th Eidolon: Bounce Attack, can now trigger 5 times PER TARGET

Of the 4, Silver Wolf was probably the most niche and also probably needed these buffs the most. The choice to make her Ultimate AoE is, in particular, very helpful.

Blade: Why Weren’t These Part of his Original Design

The changes made to Blade are as follows:

  1. His Basic Attack (both versions) now scales completely off Max HP. No more split scaling.
  2. His now increases his chances of being attacked (why this was part of his original kit, I don’t know).
  3. His Ultimate also loses its split scaling and now only scales off Max HP.
  4. Same with his Talent.
  5. Trace Ability: Vita Infinita has completely changed. Now, when Blade uses his Ultimate, it only clears 50% of the tallied HP lost (If he lost 1000, it would only remove 500 from the total).
  6. Trace Ability: Neverending Deaths completely changed, too. Increases HP restored from healing by 20% and converts 25% of the healed amount into HP lost tally for his Ultimate (basically, healing charges his Ultimate faster).
  7. His Follow-up ATK DMG now regenerates 15 Energy.
  8. His 1st Eidolon: Blade Cuts the Deepest in Hell now increases the DMG of both his Enhanced Basic ATK and his Ultimate against the primary target. The 90% tally cap is also removed, so I guess the HP loss tally is now infinite.

Blade’s updates primarily took away his split scaling, which was something he probably shouldn’t have had in the first place. And they gave him an aggro increase, which was definitely something he should have had out of the gate. He’s still nowhere near as immortal as Mydei, though.

Kafka: Honkai: Star Rails DoT Queen

The changes made to Kafka are as follows:

  1. Her Skill will now cause both the primary target and the targets adjacent to it to immediately take DoT DMG (70% and 50% of the original DMG, respectively). Originally, it was only the primary target that took the immediate DoT DMG.
  2. When using her Ultimate, the immediate DoT damage taken is increased.
  3. Her Talent now has 2 charges (you regain 1 at the end of her turn) and can be triggered by any ability an ally uses (not just a Basic Attack).
  4. Trace Ability: Torture completely changed. Now, when an ally’s Effect Hit Rate is 75% or higher, Kafka will increase their ATK by 100%.
  5. Trace Ability: Thorns also completely changed. After using Ultimate, she regains 1 charge of her Talent. Also, when the Follow-up ATK from her Talent hits an enemy, they will take immediate DoT DMG.
  6. Her 1st Eidolon: Da Capo now has a chance to trigger from an attack, not just her Talent’s Follow-up ATK.
  7. The amount of damage DoTs down when Kafka’s on the field is increased, courtesy of her 2nd

Of the 4, I’d say Kafka needed Buffs the least. But, still, they are nice and, with Hysilens coming soon, hopefully they will revive the DoT meta.

Jingliu: The Master Swordwoman Returns

The changes made to Jingliu are as follows:

  1. All her damage now scales off Max HP. Time to farm some Relics.
  2. When she enters “Spectral Transmigration,” he immediately gains 1 extra stack of Syzygy. That gives her 3 off the bat. The cap for “Syzygy” has also been increased to 4.
  3. While in “Spectral Transmigration,” whenever an ally receives damage or consumes HP, Jingliu gains 1 stack of “Moonlight”. Each stack increases her CRIT DMG by 44%. She can have a max of 5 stacks. Furthermore, after ally targets receive DMG or consume HP a total of 20 times, Jingliu gains 1 stack of “Syzygy”.
  4. Trace Ability: Deathrealm also increases her Ultimate’s DMG.
  5. Instead of advancing her next action, Trace Ability: Sword Champion now causes her Normal Skill: Transcendent Flash to regenerate 15 Energy and her Enhanced Skill: Moon on Glacial River to regenerate 23 Energy.
  6. Trace Ability: Frost Wraith changed. Now, when Jingliu obtains “Syzygy”, if the stack limit has been reached, her next attack ignores 25% of the targets’ DEF.
  7. The CRIT DMG bonus from her 1st Eidolon: Moon Crashes Tianguan Gate is increased.
  8. Her 4th Eidolon: Lunarlance Shines Skyward Dome has been changed. Now, when she is in the “Spectral Transmigration” state, each stack of “Moonlight” also increases her CRIT DMG.
  9. Bonus CRIT DMG removed from her 6th Eidolon: Eclipse Hollows Corporeal Husk and replaced by Ice RES PEN.

Jingliu needed these changes. Maybe not as much as Silver Wolf, but she definitely needed something. Also, it might be possible, if you play her right and take enough damage, to keep her in “Spectral Transmigration” indefinitely.
