So, you think you have what it takes to earn the coveted Foxhound rank in Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater? Getting this legendary title isn’t just a walk in the park; it’s a brutal, soul-crushing trial by fire that separates the rookie snakes from the Big Bosses. It demands perfection, patience, and a level of stealth so sublime you’ll start to question if you even exist.

But hey, that’s why you’re here, right? You’re not looking for easy. You’re looking for glory. Let’s break down exactly what you need to do to achieve this monumental feat and etch your name into the annals of Metal Gear history.

What is the Foxhound Rank?

The Foxhound rank is the highest possible honor you can achieve in MGS Delta. It’s a testament to your absolute mastery of the game’s mechanics, proving you can ghost through the jungle, neutralize bosses without breaking a sweat, and do it all faster than a speeding Shagohod.

Earning it is a badge of honor, but it also comes with some seriously sweet loot. We’re talking about game-breaking gear that makes subsequent playthroughs feel like a victory lap. But before you get the goods, you have to prove you’re worthy.

Foxhound Rank Requirements

Alright, time to face the music. Here’s the laundry list of pain you need to endure. To get the Foxhound rank, you must complete the game with all the following conditions met:

  • Difficulty: Must be on Extreme or European Extreme. (Go big or go home, right?)
  • Playtime: Finish the entire game in under 5 hours. Yes, that includes all the boss fights.
  • Continues: Zero. Zilch. Nada. If you die, you can’t just hit “Continue.”
  • Alerts: A big fat zero. If you trigger a full-blown alert phase, you’ve failed.
  • Human Kills: Another zero. You’re a ghost, not a butcher. Non-lethal takedowns only.
  • Serious Injuries: Suffer less than 20 serious injuries. These are the nasty ones that leave a red bar on your health and require field surgery.
  • Total Damage: Take less than 5 full life bars of damage throughout the entire game.
  • Life Medicine: Don’t even think about it. Using Life Meds is an instant disqualification.
  • Special Items: No special items allowed. That means no Infinity Face Paint or Stealth Camo on this run. You have to earn them first!

It’s a tall order, I know. But the rewards are so, so worth it.

Rewards for Earning Foxhound

So what do you get for all this suffering? Only the most overpowered items in the game:

  • EZ Gun: A special tranquilizer pistol with infinite ammo and a built-in laser sight. It also boosts your camo index while equipped.
  • Infinity Face Paint: Grants you infinite ammunition for every single weapon. Go nuts.
  • Stealth Camouflage: A cloaking device that renders you almost completely invisible.
  • FOXHOUND Trophy/Achievement: The ultimate digital proof of your god-tier skills.

Tips for Achieving Foxhound Rank

Ready to take on the challenge? Don’t go in blind. Here are some essential tips from one Snake to another that will make your Foxhound run a little less impossible.

1. Do a Practice Run (or Two)
Seriously, do not attempt this on your first playthrough. Complete the game at least once on a lower difficulty. Your goal is to learn enemy patrol routes, item locations, and boss patterns like the back of your hand. Think of it as homework. The more you study, the easier the final exam will be.

2. Get the AT-Camo First
This is probably the single most important tip. Before you start your Foxhound run, do a separate playthrough to find all 64 GA-KO rubber ducks scattered throughout the game. Your reward is the AT-Camo, a ghillie suit that gives you an insane 80% camo index just for wearing it. It’s not considered a “special item,” so using it is completely fair game. It’s basically a cheat code, and you’d be a fool not to use it.

3. Master the Art of Saving
The game’s autosave feature is your best friend. Every time you enter a new area, the game saves. If you get spotted or take too much damage, do not—I repeat, DO NOT—hit “Continue” from the death screen. That counts as a continue and voids your run. Instead, quit to the main menu and load your most recent autosave. It’s a bit of a hassle, but it’s the only way.

4. Skip Everything You Can
Every second counts. Your 5-hour time limit is ticking down during cutscenes and radio calls. Mash that skip button like your life depends on it, because in a way, it does. You can always watch the story again later.

5. Avoid Unnecessary Fights
This is a stealth mission, not a Rambo movie. If you can sneak past an enemy, do it. Every confrontation you avoid saves time, ammo, and precious health. Use your Mk22 tranquilizer pistol for guards you absolutely must take down, and remember the “tranq and roll” trick: shoot an enemy with a dart and immediately roll into them to knock them out instantly.

By following this guide, you’ll be well on your way to earning the legendary Foxhound rank. It’s a long, arduous journey, but the feeling of accomplishment—and those sweet, sweet rewards—is more than worth it. Now get out there, Snake, and make us proud.
