How to Find Safe Mushrooms Like a Pro in PEAK (Without Poisoning Yourself)

Alright, so you’re wandering through the lush landscapes of PEAK, basking in the serenity of nature… and suddenly you’re starving. Your first instinct? Mushrooms! They’re everywhere, right? But hold up, not every mushroom you find is your tummy’s best friend. Unless, of course, you enjoy taking a bite only to watch your health bar plummet faster than a lead balloon. Fun times.

If you’ve set out to score that coveted Mycology Badge (or just want to avoid becoming a walking toxicity meter), this guide is your ultimate how-to. Spoiler alert: not all squishy mushrooms will ruin your day, but tread lightly because some absolutely will

What Is the Mycology Badge, Anyway?

Ah, the Mycology Badge. A simple concept with a sneaky twist. To nab it, all you have to do is chomp down four different safe mushrooms in a single run. Easy, right? Not so fast. While you’re out there scavenging through the Shore biome, PEAK’s favorite fungi playground, you’ve got to steer clear of their poisonous twins.

Did I mention there’s a Mushroom Hat up for grabs as a bonus reward? If looking like a mushroom isn’t the dream, I don’t know what is. (It’s also great for showing off your foraging talent.

Safe vs. Poisonous—which Mushrooms Are Frenemies?

PEAK’s mushrooms aren’t all created equal, and some love pulling a bait-and-switch on you. Here’s the rundown on what to look for if you’d like to keep breathing post-snack:

  • Chubby Shroom
    • Safe Marker: Always edible. But hey, still give it a once-over.
    • Poisonous Marker? None confirmed! (Unless PEAK decides to troll us all in a new update.)
    • Pro Tip: Big, chunky, round mushrooms with no crazy frills = your best foodie friend.
  • Button Shroom
    • Safe Marker: A nice, big “X” mark running across the cap like it owns the place.
    • Poisonous Marker: Polka dots! If your mushroom looks like it stole its outfit from the ’70s, toss it back where it came from.
    • Pro Tip: Don’t be lazy. Tilt this one around to verify that X before taking a bite.
  • Bugle Shroom
    • Safe Marker: Smooth stem, pristine as if it just had a spa day.
    • Poisonous Marker: Lines and webbing near the hood. You’re essentially eating spider silk if you ignore this.
    • Pro Tip: When in doubt, think clean and uniform. Anything sketchy? Hard pass.
  • Cluster Shroom
    • Safe Marker: Every stalk is smooth and consistent. No weird, frumpy “skirts.”
    • Poisonous Marker: Those sneaky little skirts around the stem. Ew.
    • Pro Tip: Observe the whole cluster! It just takes one poisonous imposter to ruin lunch.

What Happens If You Mess Up?

Eat a poisonous mushroom, and two things will happen. First, you’ll stack up toxicity faster than a bad Reddit thread. Second, your stamina takes a nose-dive, leaving you tripping over everything.

But wait! It gets worse. Chow down too many venomous shrooms (why would you even?), and you’ll flat-out die. If you’re lucky, a teammate will revive you while muttering something about “rookie mistakes.” If you’re solo… well, better luck next run.

The antidote? Literally called “Remedy Fungus.” Always have one on you. Treat it like your PEAK version of a first-aid kit.

Pro Tips for Scoring That Mycology Badge Like a Legend

  1. Start in the Shore Biome

It’s got the highest chance of housing all the mushrooms you need. Trust us, wandering through the Tropics hoping for miracles is a rookie move.

  1. Zoom, Inspect, Rotate!

Look at every shroom like it’s under interrogation. Caps, stems, undersides—get your detective hat on and confirm no poison markers.

  1. When in Doubt, Hold Back

Keep mushrooms in your inventory instead of eating as you go. That way, if you accidentally grab a poisonous one, it won’t sabotage you mid-run.

  1. Restart Runs

Not finding the safe mushrooms you need? Restart the run or wait for the daily map reset. No shame in hitting refresh.

  1. Carry a Remedy Fungus

Look, mistakes happen. But being able to fix them instantly? Total pro move.

What’s the Prize?

Here’s the good news: as soon as you eat that fourth safe mushroom, the badge unlocks automatically. No need to haul your poisoned, half-dead self to the end of the run. Oh, and don’t forget your jaunty Mushroom Hat for bragging rights.

Is It Worth It?

Absolutely. Renting time in nature, learning which mushrooms want you dead, and coming out victorious? Peak PEAK gaming. Plus, there’s nothing quite like rocking that Mushroom Hat to silently say, “Yeah, I know my fungi.”

Now go forth, scour the biomes, and forage like your digital life depends on it
