How to Get Mega Alakazam in Pokémon Legends: Z-A

Step 1: Find and Catch Abra in Wild Zone 5

Your journey begins with catching an Abra. This skittish Pokémon is known for using Teleport to flee at the first sign of trouble, so you’ll need a stealthy approach. Abra can be found early in the game once you gain access to the initial Wild Zones.

Head to Wild Zone 5, where Abra spawns on the rooftops. To reach this area, you’ll need to find and climb a ladder located within the zone. Since Abra will vanish if your first catch attempt fails, it’s crucial to be prepared. Sneak up on it carefully and use a higher-tier Poké Ball, like an Ultra Ball, to increase your chances of a successful capture on the first throw. Don’t worry if it gets away; you can reset the area or find another Abra nearby.

Step 2: Evolve Abra into Kadabra and Alakazam

Once you have an Abra, the next step is evolution. Abra evolves into Kadabra simply by leveling it up to Level 16.

Evolving Kadabra into Alakazam, however, requires a trade. Pokémon Legends: Z-A brings back the classic trade evolution method for Alakazam. You will need to trade your Kadabra to another player using the game’s Link Play feature and have them trade it back to you. If you prefer to play solo or don’t have a trade partner, you can catch an Alpha Alakazam that occasionally spawns in Wild Zone 20, though this area only becomes available late in the game.

Step 3: Obtain the Alakazite Mega Stone

With your Alakazam ready, you need its corresponding Mega Stone, the Alakazite. This item is available for purchase at the Mega Shard Exchange inside the Quasartico Inc. headquarters. You gain access to this facility after reaching Rank F in the main story.

Acquiring the Alakazite costs 360 Mega Shards. These shards are a common resource found in crystal clusters scattered throughout Lumiose City. As you explore, make sure to destroy these clusters to collect the shards you need. The Alakazite is available at the exchange from the start, so you can obtain it as soon as you have enough shards.

Step 4: Using Mega Evolution

After obtaining the Alakazite, give it to your Alakazam to hold. This will unlock its ability to Mega Evolve during battles. When the time is right, you can activate the Mega Evolution to transform Alakazam into its super-powered form, ready to sweep opponents with its immense speed and psychic power.
