If You Love Split Fiction Here’s 5 Games to Play
- Image from Split Fiction, Courtesy of Hazelight Studios

Hazelight Studios’ Split Fiction has finally landed on consoles, and PC players are still vibing with it. It’s taking both platforms by storm and topping “Best of 2025” charts across the board. On Metacritic, it’s currently sitting at a 91—not exactly a small feat.

This couch co-op adventure has earned serious praise from critics and players alike. And it’s no surprise why—Hazelight is leading the charge in crafting meaningful cooperative experiences that tell a story, whether you’re sitting next to your partner or playing online from two different time zones.

But if you’ve already played through Split Fiction and are itching for more of that co-op magic, here are some amazing alternatives you should check out. These are in no particular order, because picking a favorite would just start arguments—and we don’t want that kind of energy here.

5. A Way Out

Let’s start with where it all began for Hazelight. A Way Out was their debut title, revealed at the 2017 Game Awards. It follows two prisoners, Leo and Vincent, who hatch a plan to escape prison and outrun the law, the problem is trying to do it with a split screen in your way. Coordination is key here

! You get emotional storytelling, split-screen co-op, and just enough chaos to remind you you’re not playing this alone. This is where Hazelight started leaning into what they now do best—and it still holds up.

4. Unravel Two

If you know Unravel, you might’ve seen its co-op sequel, Unravel Two, developed by Coldwood Interactive. You play as two Yarnies (yes, adorable yarn creatures) bound together by a spark of connection. There’s no dialogue—the story is told through the background and the gameplay as you solve puzzles and navigate beautiful landscapes. It’s short but sweet, and surprisingly emotional for a game made of thread.

3. Sackboy: A Big Adventure

Sackboy: A Big Adventure takes the creative spirit of LittleBigPlanet and brings it into a whimsical 3D platformer. Yes, you can play solo—but co-op is where the magic really happens. You and your teammate work through colorful, personality-packed levels, solving puzzles and helping each other past increasingly complex obstacles. It’s charming, it’s joyful, and it hits that Split Fiction vibe of “let’s go on an adventure together.”

2. Overcooked 2

Want to test your friendships? Welcome to Overcooked 2. This kitchen-based co-op game turns meal prep into pure chaos, where communication is key and the kitchen might suddenly float in the air across two split platforms. One minute you’re calmly dicing onions, the next you’re yelling at your best friend to grab the damn soup before it explodes. It’s stressful. It’s hilarious. And yes—you’ll want to play it again.

1. It Takes Two

Hazelight’s critically acclaimed follow-up to A Way Out, It Takes Two, follows Cody and May, a divorcing couple magically turned into dolls by their daughter’s wish (never underestimate kid magic). They must navigate a wild, shape-shifting world together, solving puzzles and overcoming obstacles in a game that reinvents itself constantly. The twist? You must work together. Where Split Fiction thrives on competitive storytelling, It Takes Two thrives on synchronized cooperation. It’s heartfelt, absurd, and full of memories waiting to be made.

Final Thoughts

Co-op games like Split Fiction don’t come around often—but these five titles come pretty close to capturing that same energy. Whether you’re escaping prison, cooking under pressure, or platforming through chaos, they all celebrate what makes couch co-op so much fun—shared experiences, good storytelling, and yes, the occasional fight over who gets the loot.

Hazelight’s got the magic touch—but they’re not the only ones doing great things in co-op. So grab a friend, a controller, and dive in.
