Injustice 3 has been in the rumor mill for years. The second installment of the series was released eight years ago, way back in 2017. This was only four years after the original Injustice: Gods Among Us game was released by NetherRealm Studios. The fighting game stars many fan favorite characters from the DC Comics universe and has had some epic moments at esports events. Everything has been hopes and dreams for the third game, but a social media post from a developer has caused speculation to skyrocket.

Injustice 3 Teased?

For years, NetherRealm Studios alternated between Mortal Kombat releases and Injustice. However, that streak was broken when Mortal Kombat 1 was released after Mortal Kombat 11. Many fans thought the dream was dead until a social media post from developer Ed Boon. In an Instagram post, Boon posted a picture of an Injustice 2 arcade machine with the caption, “anyone else miss arcades?” This immediately threw the internet into a frenzy, wondering whether this was the tease for Injustice 3.

Boon has the reputation of teasing fans with upcoming titles. This isn’t a leaker or a random account on the internet. It’s difficult to say exactly what this means. The developer could be trying to get engagement on his social media. However, given his past, it wouldn’t be surprising if this meant something that would not be a surprise.

They Should Complete The Trilogy

This is a great time to get Injustice 3 out there. James Gunn is getting ready to relaunch the movies of the DC Universe with the release of the new Superman movie. Animated series like Harley Quinn on Max have been wildly successful and introduced players to a multitude of lesser-known characters. The video game series itself already has a strong following.

There are plenty of characters that haven’t been in the game that would be fun to play with. This would also be a way to get more people into the genre of fighting games. Mortal Kombat is a legendary series, but the heavy emphasis on gore makes the series less accessible for some. While there are plenty of punches thrown in the Injustice series, Batman isn’t getting sawed in half.

Final Thoughts

We’ll have to keep an eye out for an Injustice 3 announcement. NetherRealm Studios has perfected the fighting genre, making it one of the most played games in the world. Furthermore, the studio has been able to collaborate with many other brands, making the possibilities of fighters endless. Will we see an announcement soon, or will we have to continue to wait?
