InZOI Players Counts Plummet After Record-Breaking Launch

InZOI, the new life simulator by Krafton that drew instant comparisons to The Sims franchise, has seen user numbers consistently drop after its record-setting launch. While some drop off is to be expected after most game releases, the staggering exodus does not bode well for the future of the simulator. It does not necessarily spell the end, either, but Krafton will have to do something to curb the bleeding.

InZOI Takes Massive Hit Only One Month Into Early Access

Upon release, InZOI was able to achieve over a million users in the first week, including 87,000 concurrently. These numbers were record-breaking, and the game industry immediately began to herald the game as a true “Sims Killer”. Well, hold your horses for a minute, gaming community. Since that first week, the game has seen a steady and dramatic drop in user numbers. The game itself is in early access, so there are still kinks being worked out. However, fans have had mixed reactions overall, although there were many positives. Specifically, the gameplay was not yet up to snuff for users.

Despite that, the strong and detailed visuals that are immersive, the depth of customization options, and a promise of engaging activities to partake in, it appeared InZOI had a great deal of promise. Unfortunately, fans do not appear to be sticking with the early access entry that never pretended to hide the work that still needs to be done. By April 15, the user base had free-fallen from 87,000 to just 8,477, a decrease of over 85%. That number is also lower than any point in time for the Sims 4 since 2021, according to The Gamer.

The Gamer writes, “By diving deeper into the data, we can see that InZoi is struggling even more. On April 15, the game had an average of 6,647 players playing at any given time. Since records began, The Sims 4 has never, ever dropped this low.” The numbers have since gotten even worse. As of April 24, the number of concurrent players is all the way down to 3,751. Yikes.

That said, it is not the end for InZOI. The developers have given players a roadmap of future updates, including additions to content and quality of life. The market is there, as shown by the release date of game purchases. It is now all about figuring out why players are leaving and winning them back. New content has to engage these players and add something unique and new to the table. Hopefully, InZOI can pull that off and bring numbers back as it irons out the wrinkles.

Final Thoughts

The Sims has held a bit of a monopoly on the living simulation market for over two decades. That level of longevity, success, and proof of concept has built a loyal fan base that is hard to break down. At first, it appeared InZOI was going to finally provide a challenge to The Sims. It still may, since there is a clear fan base wanting more from the genre. The drop in numbers makes it obvious it is not there yet, and Krafton needs to work hard and deliberately if it wants to regain the momentum it held at launch.
