A Japanese teacher is making headlines with their unusual teaching method of teaching English, by playing P.T., the interactive teaser trailer for the canceled Silent Hills game, which was released in 2014. Hideo Kojima’s short teaser for Silent Hills puts the player in an empty house filled with supernatural phenomena and malevolence. I find it interesting, a teacher would showcase this game to students in any official capacity, so here are all the details of how this came about.
Like I said, P.T. is an interactive teaser trailer for the canceled Silent Hill game that was released over a decade ago. It is widely considered one of the scariest video game experiences of all time, and it isn’t even a full game. You play as an unnamed protagonist trapped in a house filled with apparitions and must experience different horrific situations to escape. At the end of the teaser, once you can escape, you find out that the game will lead you into what was a planned Silent Hill installment called Silent Hills.
The game was subsequently canceled, but the teaser still haunts players with its oppressive and dark atmosphere. It’s a wonder a teacher would showcase this game inside a classroom, but alas, here we are.

So what’s the scoop? Essentially, as reported on the school’s blog and Automaton, “students were required to play through the experience in English, as well as give each player’s commands in English, such as ‘walk around the room’ and ‘answer the phone.” According to the blog, students had an actual blast with this English exercise. They were able to experience one of the scariest game experiences to come out ever, while learning “natural English expressions.”
This Japanese teacher deserves Teacher of the Year. As a horror buff, this is pretty exciting. This teacher single-handedly made their class interactive, fun, and educational, keeping students engaged with an unforgettable experience during their elementary school careers. It’s also really smart, given this modern era of gaming we are falling into, where more and more kids are playing video games, and I have to commend the school for allowing this exercise to happen at all.
