Summer Games Fest revealed several different multiplayer games, and one of them I am especially excited for. Last Flag is a Capture the Flag shooter game that brings the nostalgia of the genre with some unique twists to make it its own game as well. The third-person style shooter has similarities to Team Fortress 2, while also bringing a fresh perspective. For those who grew up playing capture the flag as a kid, this game will tug at the child in you. Gather your friends and experience the game once again.
New Studio Night Street Games brought a game of nostalgic memories to the Summer Games Fest. “Dan and I grew up playing capture the flag in the woods at night with flashlights, friends, and lots of adrenaline,” says creator Mac Reynolds. “Last Flag is our attempt to honor the purity and magic of that hide and seek experience—brought to life by the incredible team of developers we’re lucky enough to stand beside.”
Last Flag is more than just a basic capture the flag set-up, though. As IGN describes,
“Like the game it’s based on, Last Flag is conceptually simple: two teams of five, each side has a flag that they hide somewhere on their side. When the game starts, each team must try and find the opponent’s flag and bring it back to their own base, then defend it for one minute to win the game, all while protecting their own flag.
Last Flag throws in a few twists, such as towers around the map that can be captured in order to narrow down the flag’s location, and of course the unique abilities of each member of the roster of heroes, all of which can be upgraded throughout the match. There are 10 playable characters at launch, each with a unique kit: there’s an archer, a thief, a scout with a cyber falcon partner, and more.
One of the special keys to the game is utilizing each unique character to learn their playstyle, but each hero also has a chance to go beyond what is expected of their class. Exploring the multiplayer game with friends helps maximize the potential enjoyment.
The team also wants to create shareable moments in Last Flag, fun between players, and a natural progression from the game people grew up playing as children. “Then there’s all these fun shareable moments that get created by people discovering new synergies between some of the abilities or discovering new ways to use them or looking at a situation that’s completely novel and being like, ‘Oh crap, you know what I bet I could do?’ And to me, that’s some of the most fun.” They also reference Team Fortress 2 and Super Smash Bros as examples of these moments.

Reach in to that inner child, wrangle up your friends, and come bring capture the flag to the modern day. Last Flag will be available in 2026 for PC, through both Steam and the Epic Games Store. A PC Alpha will be available later this year. Although there is no console announcement yet, the team does say they have a plan to bring it to console platforms as well. Stay tuned for more announcements soon!
