Nod Krai has arrived, and with it comes the region’s first genuine 5-Star character, Lauma.  Like Ineffa before her, Lauma brings with her a new Elemental Reaction, Lunar-Bloom.  As with Lunar-Charged, this new reaction can CRIT.  Additionally, whenever a Lunar-Bloom reaction is triggered, the party will receive 1 stack of Verdant Dew (max 3 stacks, can gain once every 2.5 seconds).  Verdant Dew can be utilized by specific characters for different purposes.

How Does Lauma Work

Lauma is a 5-Star Dendro Support character who specializes in enhancing Bloom-based reactions, especially the new Lunar-Bloom.  Her weapon is a Catalyst.

Bloom in the Light of the Moon

Though Lauma can be used as a general Dendro Support, her main power comes when she is used to facilitate Bloom-Based reactions.  If her team is under the effects of Moonsign: Nascent Gleam, all Bloom, Hyperbloom, and Burgeon Damage can CRIT.  The CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG are fixed at 15% and 100% respectively, though they can stack with other such effects (Nahida’s C2, for example).

On the other hand, if Lauma’s team is under the effects of Moonsign: Ascendant Gleam, she instead buffs the CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG of Lunar-Bloom reactions by 10% and 20% respectively.  These effects do not stack, so you need to choose your teams accordingly.

A 3-Step Process

Lauma’s Elemental Skill and Burst are highly interconnected.  Her Skill has a Tap version and a Hold version.  The Tap version summons a field that follows your active character and deals Dendro Damage every 2 seconds.

The Hold version can only be used when Lauma has at least 1 Verdant Dew (see above).  When used, it will consume all stacks of Verdant Dew and, for every stack consumed, give Lauma 1 stack of Moon Song.

Damage dealt by either the Skill’s initial damage or its persistent damage will reduce the Dendro and Hydro resistance of the enemy hit.

Lauma’s Burst gives her 18 stacks of Pale Hymn when used.  If Lauma has stacks of Moon Song when she uses her Burst, or if she gains Moon Song within 15 seconds of using her Burst, she will consume all the stacks to give her 6 more stacks of Pale Hymn per Moon Song (that’s 18 more, so 36 in total).

Pale Hymn increases the DMG dealt by Bloom-Based reactions based on Lauma’s Elemental Mastery.  Each enemy hit by a Bloom-Based reaction consumes a stack, meaning hitting multiple enemies will consume multiple stacks.

As if you didn’t already have a reason to build Elemental Mastery on her, Lauma’s 2nd Passive increases the damage of her Elemental Skill by .04% per point of EM (max 32%).  That means, to get the full effect, you would need 800 Elemental Mastery.

As many of you probably noticed, Lauma has the only (for now, hopefully) exploration mechanic in Nod Krai.  When using her Charged Attack, instead of attacking, she transforms into a centaur.  She can canter around and even jump in mid-air.  After she leaves this form, there is a short window in which she can actually fire off a normal Charged Attack (which is made even shorter by her 2nd Passive).

Her Utility Passive allows you to see Nod Krai specific resources on the mini-map.

What to Build on Lauma

EM is her bread and butter.  Not only does it power her Bloom reactions, but also her Skill.  If you are playing on using her for Lunar-Bloom, CRIT Rate and CRIT DMG are also good.  You’ll probably need to go full EM Main Stats, but if you manage to get to 800 and still have 1 Artifact free, you can decide between CRIT Rate, CRIT DMG, or Dendro DMG.

The artifact set that works best for her is the new Silken Moon’s Serenade.  Gilded Dreams and Golden Troupe can work, but they aren’t as good.  Her personal weapon is best, but if you can get it, A Thousand Floating Dreams is a decent 5-Star alternative.  For a 4-Star weapon, go for either the new craftable Nod Krai weapon (Blackmarrow Lantern) or Wandering Evenstar.

Who Synergizes with Lauma

While Lauma can be slotted in as a Dendro Support for most teams that need one, as of right now, Nilou is her best buddy.  When used together, Nilou’s Bountiful Cores will have both their normal properties and the properties of Lunar-Bloom (meaning they can CRIT).  You’ll need to Aino if you want to gain the effects of Moonsing: Ascendant.  And, since the damage will be extreme, a healing like Baizhu would be wise.

All that said, it’s possible that the full extent of Lauma’s potential has yet to be determined.  It’s highly likely that she and Columbina will synergize extremely, rather like how Neuvillette and Furina do.  But that’s only speculation at this point.
