KT Rolster caused one of the biggest upsets in professional League of Legends this year. They took down GenG Esports in a 3-2 series. BDD and Cuzz ascended to overtake one of the best Mid-Jungles in the World in Chovy and Canyon. KT shook the entire LCK Playoffs bracket, forcing a T1 Versus GenG match in the Lower Bracket Semi-Final. GenG emerged victorious in that series, and with the win under their belt, they are hungry for revenge.
The LCK Lower Bracket Final at the Inspire Arena begins at 10:00 PM PT (7:00 AM CET September 27th). Will GenG enact their revenge, or can KT prove they deserve a spot in the Grand Finals?
KT and GenG have faced off six times in the LCK this year. Before their previous meeting, GenG had won every series. KT only took one game in that timespan. That was flipped on its head in the Round 2 Playoffs match, where KT emerged with a 3-2 victory.
KT could not keep up their momentum from the GenG series and fell to a 3-0 defeat against Hanwha Life. GenG also seemed to be reeling against T1. They went 2-1 down in the series and could have lost 3-0 if it was not for heroics combined with T1’s mistakes. They roared back to life in games 4 and 5 to end the series 3-2 in their favor.
Bdd and Cuzz decided that the previous series was their time to shine, wrestled control away from GenG. While they had an incredible performance, Chovy and Canyon’s form drastically dipped. Canyon’s struggles continued against T1 until the fourth game of the series. On one of his comfort champions, Skarner, he dominated T1 and seemed to regain his confidence. Chovy, on the other hand, played a pivotal part in GenG’s win, even if his Ahri was not as dominant as expected. If Chovy and Canyon have regained their form, Bdd and Cuzz might not be enough for KT to cause another upset.
Another aspect that played into KT’s favor in the previous series was their draft picks. Bdd played Zoe and Lissandra in the final games of the series. If KT has more picks up their sleeve to catch GenG off guard, they might be able to garner the upper hand. The Zoe is likely off the table, as GenG will be wary of giving Bdd one of his best champions. But can you risk banning a more niche champion over something that has better impact in the meta, like Azir, Taliyah, Orianna, and Ryze? Only GenG can answer that question, and they will have to be ready for any surprises that KT throws their way.
KT 1-3 GenG
We had an identical prediction last time, and that turned out to bite us in the backside. GenG has seemed to fix some of their issues from the first meeting, and considering it was close last time, it is unlikely KT can do it again. Bdd and Cuzz will have to have monstrous performances again to give KT a chance, but that is a nearly impossible task. They have done it before, so there is no way we can write it off at this stage.
KT and GenG are fighting for two aspects. The first is better seeding at the World Championship. The second, and more pivotal aspect, is that a spot in the LCK Grand Finals is waiting. Hanwha Life, the defending LCK champions, are raring to go and take on either team.
