Lightyear Frontier is the farming game you didn’t know you needed. Sure, there are already many cozy farming games to choose from. But do they have mechs?

What is Lightyear Frontier?

Have you seen Stardew Valley? Slime Rancher? Well, it’s like that but more. You’re settling on an alien planet, building a farm, a homestead, collecting materials, upgrading your mech, saving wildlife, cleaning up the environment… Whew! That’s a lot of things to do. And you can do it alone or with friends. The developer’s website says this:

“In Lightyear Frontier you use your powerful trusty mech to farm on a large beautiful alien planet. Settle your homestead, farm and deliver produce to remote colonies, gather and manage resources, build, craft, explore, expand, improve your mech, meet neighbors, and make a place to call your own.”

It’s a beautiful game too. In case you don’t believe us, we’ll drop a link to the launch video below. In the game, you’ve set out to a new planet because Earth’s farmland is in trouble. Once you crash, recover your gear, and get started building. Fill all the quotas for delivered goods and you own your planet! That’s quite a deal. And you aren’t just walking around planting crops. You have a big mech that you ride around in to complete your tasks. So, it’s also kind of like Paleo Pines, but you’re in a big machine instead of riding a dinosaur.

There are plenty of things to find, like new crops and materials, plus investigating the planet’s history. And, you have your own farm to build up and decorate.

Why Now?

The game is currently in early access. But there have been a lot of updates since they first opened the doors. The map has changed, the mech has better proportions, and base building has had a refresh. They’ve added more freedom to customize your farm. On June 25, 2025, the developers shared their plans for Lightyear Frontier. They’re continuing to release hotfixes and improvements based on player feedback. They’ve also released a roadmap that lists everything they’re working on.

So, if you had a look at the game when it was first available, it’s a good time to have another look. The game is available for PC and Xbox Series S/X with Game Pass and on Steam.
